“Island paradise”

Another outstanding stay at Ray Caye resort. Outstanding staff hospitality, excellent food and just a wonderful relaxing atmosphere. This was our third time visiting, which should tell you something. Excellent snorkeling. Well worth the extra travel involved in getting there. Highly recommended.

Ray Caye presents a dilemma to me: it is the place you want to tell everyone you know about, and at the same time hope no one finds out about, or else it get overrun and spoil the magic. We spent three nights there, and even before out trip ended, were planning a return visit. And not just us: every guest we talked to was planning the same. You're in a quiet, restful island setting far from the eager tourist crowds (though daytrippers do come to the island) and have the reef around the island nearly to yourself for snorkeling all day long. Our cabana had a semi-private deck right on the water, so every day we woke to the sunrise. Every night we watched the sunset from their spectacular restaurant. Not only did we not have a bad meal there in our three days - every meal was *great*. And their staff are superb - friendly, remember your name and prompt with everything. What could be better? Just two things come to mind: 1. The staff told us daytrippers are not allowed in certain parts of the island. We felt comfortable leaving our room unlocked and personal effects on the south dock because of this, only to find on the first day the daytrippers were going everywhere - even with paid guides accompanying them. Either don't tell guests this, or enforce this policy uniformly. 2. Be clear about the return trip timing upon check in. We were eager to do more snorkeling and maybe have another lunch our last day, only to find at 8pm the night before that the return boat was leaving at 8am. I understand the need to accommodate other guests, but this was really disappointing. Especially since we had to cancel our last night here and stay in Placencia because we were told we wouldn't get back in time for our flight - only to see two other guests who were not on our return boat on our exact flight the next day. I want to emphasize that those are minor quibbles. We will be back to Ray Caye, and already look forward to it!

Ray Caye Island Resort was a little slice of heaven for us! My husband and I went for our 30th anniversary and stayed in the honeymoon suite, which I would highly recommend for its privacy and amazing view. We had our own private splash pool, and we were steps away from reclining by the ocean. The staff was amazing and went above and beyond to take care of us during our stay! The drinks and food were delish! The excursions were awesome! The best snorkeling I have ever experienced, and fishing was so fun, including catching a record-size barracuda. We could socialize as much as we wanted, but also enjoy some alone time. This definitely a five-star experience and worth every penny! Next time we're bringing friends and family!
