It’s one of those places with a central hub of buildings and services, surrounded by jungle paths out to individual rooms/ chalets. Room was quite big with two double beds, large bathroom/ toilet/ shower area, WiFi, aircon, safe, baggage & shelf space, but no fridge that I could find. Warm stone floor. Outside terrace/ patio with chairs, but too hot to actually sit out. Very nice. Long walk to bar & restaurant for beers & dinner. Slow service at the bar. Nice dinner of guacamole, followed by chicken Caesar salad. DR service very efficient, but prices slightly stiff. Heard howler monkeys (which prowl the grounds) at 03.45 am! Breakfast in main restaurant – good on fresh fruit & yoghurt, poor on everything else – thin, warm orange juice, wishy-washy coffee, very little in the way of breads/ pastries, and little on the hot apart from scrambled eggs again. Do Mexican hotels not know how to make anything other than scrambled eggs?

“Beautiful setting in a rainforest, terrible restaurant service”

The resort features individual cottages set in lovely rainforest on the banks of a small river. The cottages are lovely, the wildlife setting is beautiful. We could hear and see troupes of howler monkeys, there were agouti wandering the grounds and lots of birds including toucans and parrots. Our stay was marred by the abysmal service at the on-site restaurant. Given the location of the resort it is impossible to eat anywhere else unless you are willing to drive a fair distance off the resort. The restaurant is expensive (we paid $30 for a small veggie pizza), and the staff seemed incapable of getting anything right. One night we waited so long for our meal that the staff began to clear our table before we had received our meal! Perhaps they are having a hard time hiring staff in this somewhat remote location, but the prices are unjustifiably high for the quality of food and the consistently poor service. There is a small store, offering snacks and essential items on site, but it is only open for short periods during the day.

Interesting to see our experience confirmed by some recent reviews. It could have been the weather (unseasonably rainy) but we did not enjoy our stay as much as we had hoped. The cottages/bungalows are nice enough, but some of them are quite a distance from the facilities: their amenities in the room are good, and overall everything is comfortable. Unfortunately, the disinterested staff rather let this place down. This is particularly marked in the bar and restaurant, where the service is quite unbelievably slow and offhand. The food was average, but we were past the point of caring by the time it finally arrived. Very average value for the food quality. A bit of a management shake up, and this place could be something special. Until then...
