“Convenient, welcoming to foreigners”

I stayed in this hotel for two nights while vacationing in Chongqing in January 2018. I chose this hotel based on other reviews and the location very near the Shapingba metro station. A new train station will soon open here, but it's not yet complete (perhaps with the soon-to-be-inaugurated high-speed service to Guiyang? not sure). At present the hotel is actually not completely built, but I was nonetheless very happy with this choice. Positives: large room, ample natural light (no adjacent skyscrapers), nice bathroom (all brand new, of course), Western TV channels, English-speaking staff at the front desk (friendly!), amazing endless breakfast buffet (included), and a terrific price. Negatives: some features of the hotel are not ready yet, such as the fitness center and the bar on the top floor. Also, there's massive construction outside that can go into the night. This bothered us, but maybe it will end soon. The hotel itself is also under construction, but this had zero impact on us -- no noise, and you would never guess from the beautiful lobby. Shapingba is a convenient place to stay, but it depends on what you're doing in Chongqing. We went to Cijikou and the downtown, also Eling, all on the red line (no changing metro lines needed). Many restaurants and excellent shopping right next door, so the area is lively at night. Easy to come back to the hotel, shower, then go out to dinner without traveling far. Overall, I was very pleased, and if I return to Chongqing, I would consider staying here again. This place will likely rise in my rating to a 5 when the nearby construction is complete. Excellent service and a great price, I thought.

The facility is a bit old, like centralized lighting control at bedside but the location is great, just next to a big shopping area and a metro line. You can get whatever you want in 5 minutes walk. The facility is a bit old, like centralized lighting control at bedside but the location is great, just next to a big shopping area and a metro line. You can get whatever you want in 5 minutes walk. Breakfast is very traditional, serving mostly Chinese food, okay if you like noodle. There is a coffee maker but it tastes like instant coffee. I have stayed three days and I got the same food on the third day. Front desk is very friendly and very helpful - much better than what I expected for this price range.

“A hotel in great location”

The last time I stayed in this hotel was six years ago. I used to be in Chongqing on average twice in three months. It was then a typical Chinese managed hotel. This time round, the first thing that struck me was the nicely renovated and decorated lobby. It looks very orderly, clean and need. The checking counter has a very professional look. Another surprise is the restaurant that serves breakfast. It is really unrecognizable. It is brighter, neater, more spacious, more choices of food, etc. There is even a new cooking station for eggs, noodle, etc. nicely located in the restaurant. It is a diametrical change from the restaurant that I have known before. Bravo! There is not much change to the room. The furniture is still old, although the rooms are clean and neat. All fixtures are serviceable, and the amenities are adequately provided. The hotel management told me that the hotel has undergone a major renovation, especially the lobby, the restaurants and the front desk. The rooms will be renovated in stages. Other than the rooms which are still old, the hotel appears to be much better than six years ago. The location of this hotel is really good. It is near a subway station, merely 3 minute walk from the hotel. It is also near the famous Shapingba walking mall. There are plenty of shops and eateries, and one is spoilt of choices of restaurants. This is indeed a big plus point of this hotel. The only problem is the parking space available. As the hotel is near the walking mall, parking presents a big problem, even for hotel guests. The parking barrier will not opened if the car park is full. It is very inconvenient for guests who are going to the airport by taxi. There is no way one can haul a taxi from the hotel main entrance. I have to walk for quite a distance to reach the car that was supposed to fetch me to the airport. Overall, Liyuan is a comfortable hotel to stay in. I shall come again.

We stayed here for a week as part of a group visit to Chongqing. It's in a convenient location in Shapingba, near shops, grocery stores, restaurants, a subway stop, and Three Gorges Square. It's not close to downtown but it's very easy to take the subway, Everything is in English in the subway. We stayed in a renovated room. It was nice, with a comfortable bed and updated bathroom. The breakfast buffet, which was included (at least for us), is decent and includes both Chinese and western options. If you're looking for a relatively economical hotel and don't mind staying in Shapingba, which isn't directly downtown, this is a good option.
