Monfortinho is a special lace, being almost 4 hours drive from Lisbon or Porto is very isolated and unique. The majority of the guests are there for thermal treatments or to ret and one feels that quietness in the air. The Astoria is a 3 star Hotel, but has nothing missing, the rooms are comfortable and spacious, the pool area is nice with a nice garden, there is free wi-fi ad the breakfast is simple but very good. The only down is that even as an Hotel guest one has to pay to use he indoor pool, and spa, which in my mind doesn't make any sense. We have used the spa and we believe is to expensive for what it offers, they charge 25Eur for a 15 min massage!!!

Monfortinho is a small village 60 km away of any city (Castelo Branco in Portugal, Caceres in Spain). It looks a lot as when you drive in Africa through the country with no people, and then you arrive to a village! There is a beautifull swimming pool 4 km from Monfortinho, with a lake nearby where you can rent a small boat, and a fine restaurant. The hotel has a lot to spend your time inn the Summer, with a fine service. And remember, Monfortinho is the driest place of Portugal. Hot in Summer (35-40ºC) and cold in Winter (0 ºC). You can walk in the streets with no fear for the rain nor cars, which are not frequent...

It is not a B&B as it is classified in tripadvisor but a 3 star hotel and it is much better than a lot of 4 star hotels where I have been around the world. The rooms and public spaces are roomy. It is very clean and rather nice (in spite of in some aspects, as concerning the furniture, being a slightly kitsch and/or outdated). It has a pleasant swimming outside and another inside. The breakfast is simple. The relation quality/price is unbeatable! The surroundings are very nice (Monfortinho is a small spa surrounding by unspoiled nature)

The hotel is quite old (from the 40's) and although it is very well kept on the outside and common areas, especially living rooms (quite beautiful), it needs an update, especially the rooms. Stayed here last August. The hotel is quite old (from the 40's) and although it is very well kept on the outside and common areas, especially living rooms (quite beautiful), it needs an update, especially the rooms. Very soft and old matresses (had to sleep on the floor because of this), old TV with misstunned channels, no small fridge (Monfortinho is very very hot), no hair drier and the carpets are totally breaking. For the price paid, it is totally unaccpetable. Most part of the staff are nice but the hotel has a serious problem with a waiter, working at the bar. The pools are nice but the tiles are dirty and with hairs around the yellow line...not nice. In favour of the hotel: amazing breakfast, good dinners (either at the Astoria or at its sister hotel Fonte Santa), the gardens around the pool. Oh, by the way: I'if you plan on spending a day at the Hotel Fonte Santa (sister hotel, 200meters), just forget it. We have to pay 6 euros per day to hang by the pool there. Once again: not acceptable at all.
