My wife and I attended the NYE festivities at The George last night which included for us the dinner, evening entertainment, an overnight stay and finishing up with a full breakfast. We have attended a number of times but this certainly was the best celebration to date. Hollie and brilliant Remi along with the whole team put in place a superb package. The George was vibrant all evening with a sumptuous dinner followed by music from a saxophone player intermingling with the disco and the dancing. It will take some beating next year but we sure will book early to save our place.

We got a really good deal from Surya for a 2 night stay which included £50 towards one meal, cream tea and breakfast for only £199. The building is beautiful and the staff were very attentive and friendly. I would have given our stay 5 stars if not for a couple minor things. We were in room 302 and the roof of our shower had a mouldy corner. Secondly, the cream tea was very nice but unfortunately our tea pot wasn't very clean and had red stains on the outside. Minor issues that can be easily rectified. Other than that, the hotel has a lovely ambience and the Christmas decorations were beautiful. Well recommended.

We had a very pleasant festive 2 night break at The George. Arrived on Christmas Eve, it was absolutely heaving, people everywhere downstairs but once through the upper doors heading to our room there wasn't any noise, such a relief. Hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The food was lovely, we had Christmas Eve dinner, Christmas lunch and two breakfasts, there was a Christmas evening buffet but we didn't attend, didnt need to. A young, friendly and conscientious team completed a pleasant experience. We were lucky with the car park, fortunately, there was one space when we arrived which we paid for at reception for the two days. Had there not been a space that would have been the only problem as it is a general public car park, not solely for the hotel. We had a good time. Thank you.

Negatives regarding this hotel, the parking we were not giving any alternative to parking at the hotel. The car park is very small and used by everyone, we had to wait for a space to become available. The hotel bar was very busy and we were unable to get a drink, even though part of the bar area was cordoned off and I asked if we could purchase a drink and was told no get in the que however to many people sitting and standing in this area it's very awkward to get to the bar. We did not book a table for restaurant, we weren't advised to however the restaurant was completely booked, had we been advised then we would have booked. We have stayed at other suraya hotels and generally you can get a table in the restaurant. I found reception staff rude and too busy seeing what was going on in the bar rather than interested in what I was saying. Our room 201, the shower was cold and no I didn't report it, because trying to shower and no internal phone in the room. Lots of noise at night, into the early hours. The room ok, very minimal. Breakfast ok, but not as much on the menu has other hotels in group. However for all the negatives we found, and not a cheap hotel we did not experience the hotel, like we should have we won't be returning. just a shame the hotel staff did not pay more attention to there residents On a plus note lots of pubs and restaurants in Colchester town who do want your custom.
