“A Cosy, Central Base for Exploring”

We stayed two nights here. It was in a perfect location on Napoli's main thoroughfare, Corso Umberto I. We booked through its parent accommodation, Residenza Nicola Amore. Our room, while small, was airy, comfortable and quiet. The bathroom space was a little tight, but manageable. We had a kitchen area that we did not use, but it was stocked with larder essentials and utensils, a step above most hotel apartments Each morning, we were served good pastries and coffee for breakfast. The owner and his son were very personable and offered great local knowledge on restaurants and attractions. The only negatives were that the double bed was two twins pushed together, the wi-fi signal was a bit unpredictable and the shower would take an age to heat up. However, these minor quibbles would not stop me from recommending Residenza Umberto I to anybody visiting Napoli.

When you're looking for a luxurious hotel with many facilities, then go somewhere else, but if you're looking for a clean, spacious hotel room, with internet, TV and bathroom, go here! It's close to everything, especially the central station. The rooms are very clean, have good beds. I stayed in a room at the street side; Corso Umbert I is a busy street, but when you close the windows, there's not a lot of noise in the room. It might be hard to find when it's dark, but just look for nr 293, and you'll find it! Since there's no breakfast room in the residenza, breakfast is taken in de Vogue cafe, which is fine, since all Italians do it that way, so why not the visitors of the Residenza Umbert I!

“Great location, mixed experience”

Residenzia Umberto is situated about 10-12 minutes from Napoli Centrale. It occupies one floor of a four-story building. If arriving at night, it is very difficult to find. There are no signboards or other signs identifying the hotel, except a 'difficult-to-see' name among many other names attached… Plus

Residenzia Umberto is situated about 10-12 minutes from Napoli Centrale. It occupies one floor of a four-story building. If arriving at night, it is very difficult to find. There are no signboards or other signs identifying the hotel, except a 'difficult-to-see' name among many other names attached to the wall above the entrance, which you only see when you are already there. At certain times in the day, you are required to put 10 cents in a slot to get the lift to work. The rooms are exceptionally clean and painted in soothing colours. Everything works - TV, WiFi, wall safe, shower, toilet, bedding, bar fridge, soundproofed windows. There however some niggles. Your room does not get cleaned unless you specifically request them in the morning to do so. Breakfast is sparse - a hot drink (tea/coffee/cappucino) and croissant/sweet bun, which you get downstairs at an adjoining coffee shop which only has seating for 5 persons. Sleep quality is not so good. Anyone coming in late at night, or anyone talking in the passage, creates such a noise that you wake up/or you cant sleep. There is no-one on duty after 18:00 so if anything goes wrong, you're on your own until the morning. Because my room was next to reception, I got woken up a few times late at night by guests looking for the manager. The hotel is however very close to the main attractions and around 10-15 minutes down to the ferry harbour. It offers fairly good value for money but falls short of a quality all-round experience. Good for a night, maybe two, but any longer becomes a bit of a mission.
