We were most impressed by how the front desk staff helped us take our two young boys up the heavenly lake (天池), which officially has a 1.5m height requirement for the snowmobile ride. The desk called the park and called us there to check on us at the park, and gave us their card in case the park still had a problem letting us up with our boys, including sending one of their staff to the park to help us in person. While the resort and room would have gotten four stars from me anyway, their service pushed beyond 5 stars. I highly recommend this place for anyone wanting to visit heavenly lake.

We visited with our two boys and stayed just one night to make a day visit to Heaven Lake. The room was large and the bathrooms were new and large too. The buffet breakfast was basic but had freshly cooked eggs, and cereal for my boys and some Chinese fare which we were happy to sample. But the exceptional service came from the front staff team (Sharon + another lady whose name we forget), who literally did everything possible to make sure our children were admitted into the national park area that has jurisdiction over Heaven Lake. We were ready to give up, but they even sent a staff member to the national park admissions office to assist in getting tickets and asking them to make an exception for us given Heaven Lake was one of our main reasons to visit. And all this was after we had checked out from the hotel! They speak very little English but their enthusiasm to help makes that almost a moot point. The hotel offers lots of activities for children including sledding and an indoor play area but we didn't have a chance to enjoy it all. Clean, large and really well located if you are in Jilin to visit Heaven Lake and the surrounding area.

It is a more than you ever ask for and imagine of for a refreshing, relax, rejuvenate resort stay at a beautiful landscape of trees, shrubs & flowers and with an amazing array of animals and birds in a mini zoo.

We stayed there for total two nights a couple of weeks ago and I would say it is only an average experience and I believe the hotel can be better! First of all, the location is nice in a way but also inconvenient. It is about 10-15 mins bus ride from the hotel to the west side of the Changbai Mountain and the hotel provides free daily shuttle service. However, you will need to leave the hotel with the bus at 9am and pretty much spend the whole day there till the bus come back and pick everyone up around 4pm. However, you really don't need to spend the whole day there because we pretty much didn't leave the hotel till 10:30am and we already got done with the place by 3pm. Another thing about this location is the surrounding areas! There is seriously not much going on which is nice at the beginning but then you really realised that the only food option for you is to eat at your hotel restaurant with an expensive price! We were debating where to book between this one and Wanda Area and we were kind of regret that we didn't go with Wanda option since the prices weren't that much of difference. Second of all, don't let the pictures fools you! I have to say they did a really good job to build the hotel from the outside so it's all pretty and beautiful. The truth is, it is nice from the outside and the pictures, but the inside is just pretty average! We were also disappointed. The activity room (swimming pool area, gym, pool area, etc) is located at B1 and the air is not moving so well down there so it almost felt not like a four or five stars hotel's facility. The room is nice because it is quite big, but I think for a nice hotel like Horizon Resort & Spa Hotel, they should have put a bit more of effort to clean each room! I felt like that the person who stayed there before us hasn't left yet. Not to mention that we couldn't take a bath because the water that came out from the faucet was yellow and dirty. We didn't realized that till the second day and just the thought that we were taking shower, brushing our teeth and washing our face with it....ew.... I think our overall experiences with this hotel is only so-so and we probably wouldn't go back to the same hotel again for our next trip to Changbai Mountain. However, I do hope that the hotel can actually deliver a good service as they advertised and it is a new hotel so I would say things may get better in the future so good luck to the hotel! One last thing needs to added which is the ONLY ONE thing that I actually appreciated during my stay there is the service provided from all of their hotel staff! They are all so professional, nice and kind and also can give you good recommendations!!!
