“A little bit of heaven”

We had a wonderful six night stay at Amada Carlota. This small hotel is in a modern, well designed building on top of a ridge in beautiful country, with sensational views of the local hills and the Picos de Europa and other mountains in the distance. Carlos our host could not have been more helpful and welcoming. He was full of ideas for interesting visits and gave us detailed and accurate information, in English. Our room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Yolanda cooked delicious and beautifully presented Japanese meals, and the wine list has a good selection of Spanish wines. Breakfast on the terrace was relaxing and peaceful, with goat bells tinkling on the slopes below. The location is in hilly country, within an hour's drive of the Picos, the coast, Oviedo and Gijon. We highly recommend Amada Carlota as a base for exploring this beautiful part of Asturias. Bob and Sue Newsom

Just stayed a couple of days at this beautifull place, last time we stayed two years ago, since then the owner realised a terrace with a VIEW, spectaculair, enjoy your breakfast with breathtaking panorama. For us it's one of our favourites in Northern Spain, let the kitchen surprise you with top Japanese food in purest form, and Always there's a good advice around which wine to choose from. Rooms are comfortable and the bathroom is perfect after a day of travelling. Let the owners makes you some trips for Parque Ponga and coastal area, he knows his way around. Carlos and Yolanda thanks again for your warm stay with you and we are looking forward for a next stay!

We spent three nights at Amada Carlota. The hotel is a modern building designed to make the most of the beautiful surroundings. It looks down on to a beautiful green valley and across to the mountains. Carlos made us feel very welcome and gave us lots of help regarding where to go and where to eat. However, the unusual aspect of Amada Carlota is the food: Yolanda (Carlos's wife) creates beautiful Japanese meals which are obviously planned with great care and beautifully presented. Not only that, Carlos explained each dish to us as it was served and gave us a greater understanding of Japanese cuisine. I should add at this point that Carlos speaks very good English!

What a special place. We stayed for six nights in July 2015 in a comfortable double room with a terrace, overlooking the view, which really is as spectacular as the reviews and website say. We were looked after so well by Carlos, who does so many jobs in his hotel - receptionist, concierge, front of house, waiter - and his pouring of the evening rosado is nothing short of superb! We ate in the tiny but excellent restaurant four times. We had a traditional Asturian meal when we arrived, then moved on to Japanese the following day - and were hooked - ordering another Japanese feast for our final night here. We also had a very generous tapas supper one evening. Everything delicious, prepared by Yolande. Every day we explored the region, helped by their in-depth knowledge of the area, and discovered some breathtaking drives and walks where we were the only visitors, rivalling anything we saw in the much more crowded Picos de Europa. The atmosphere in the hotel is laid back, friendly and warm. The building, as my fellow-travller Mike has already said, is quirky - architect designed to make the most of the position, and only four rooms, so it never felt busy. We birdwatched from the terraces very happily. Carlos and Yolande's taste for things Japanese is great - it seems to permeate the place with a calmness. There is wifi in the public areas, and I managed to persuade my iPad to log on on our terrace as well. We discovered a hidden floor on our last day, with a Japanese living space, and a library of books - something to explore on our next visit. I give this place five stars easily. It is technically a 'two star' establishment - but what it gives the visitor seems greater than that. Perhaps if one found spiral staircases difficult, it would be a different matter, but for us, both well into our sixties, we had no problem at all. Thank you to them both for an unforgettable stay.
