Very popular with group tours, these character-filled bungalows are a couple of kilometres out of Sam Neua, on a small hill opposite the airport. The locations make this a slightly less popular choice for travellers. There is a restaurant with large windows looking out in one direction over the airport, surrounded by rice fields. The other direction opens out on a small garden where a tame deer gambols and begs for snacks from diners. The menu offers a selection of Lao food as well as a few western favourites such as french fries and pancakes. The bungalows come in two styles -- faux log cabin and mock tudor. All are pretty rundown, although some are in better condition than others, with damp stains on the walls and a musty smell. Otherwise they re ok, with clean sheets, and private bathrooms featuring hot shower and western toilet. The guesthouse organises treks and tours, rent minivans, and sell their own locally-grown red tea. The staff here do speak good English, but the whole experience is a little cold.
