“Unique and rustic stay, but I overpaid”

Very peaceful and relaxing stay. 4 stars because I wish there were a few things I knew ahead of time, like the lack of warm or hot water in my room (I would have changed my stay from 3 days to 2). Very peaceful and relaxing stay. 4 stars because I wish there were a few things I knew ahead of time, like the lack of warm or hot water in my room (I would have changed my stay from 3 days to 2). Definitely a “rustic” stay (I shared my bathroom with 5 or 6 friendly geckos - thankfully I don’t have a phobia and enjoyed having insect control on-site :) and the mosquito netting wasn’t just decorative). The AC in the room worked well but only when it wasn’t windy outside (there were several nights where it was very windy and the room became quite warm). The bed was comfortable enough but the sheets had some dark stains when I arrived that were suspicious, but I knew it was going to be a more rustic stay, so I wasn’t bothered. Food was good but inconsistently prepared. I can’t say that I feel the stay was worth all the money ($1900 USD for 3 nights for 1 person, not including any lunch or dinner), but I don’t regret my stay.

“Waste of money”

Ok, The Good; beautiful location, good food and great cocktails, my room was very comfortable, large with nice decor. Hot water, great air con but in need of some repair. Ok, The Good; beautiful location, good food and great cocktails, my room was very comfortable, large with nice decor. Hot water, great air con but in need of some repair. The general staff, waiters etc, were absolutely charming and helpful. The Bad; Very poor communication from the hotel regarding transport which resulted in a very stressful arrival at the island as they failed to deliver what they promised re their own transport for us from our hotel in Cartegena. This was eventually rectified and decent reparation was offered. We didn't get an apology until the end of our stay however. My friend's room next door to me was very poor, shabby, dingey and in need of a lot of maintenance. Both rooms had filthy loo brushes and only 1 bin provided which was needed for loo paper. No hair driers, fridge or tea/coffee facilities in the rooms. No snorkeling available as advertised and the kayak wasn't fit for purpose. Dreadful massage in the spa plus the masseuse answered her phone 3 times during my session! Unfortunately some very bad weather highlighted how much maintenance was needed in the whole property. Rooms flooded, there was no covered space at all. We were all evacuated very early in the morning for a treacherous boat trip back to mainland , but this was organized well. However the coordinator of the hotel failed to give me that wake up call! I only made it because my friend knocked on my door and I had 10 mins to get up and out. The coordinator was rude, dismissive and disingenuous. The owner did offer very fair reparation around our complaints but he was very condescending and again, disingenuous. Overall, for a hotel that rates itself as 3 star it is eye wateringly expensive and absolutely not worth the money. Overall very disappointing.
