I made reservations at the Ahwahnee over a year ago to celebrate my 70th birthday weekend on May 2, 2026. I arrived with concern after reading the recent spate of negative reviews, but my experience could not have been more enjoyable! First, let me remind everyone this is a 99-year-old hotel in a national park registered as a national historic site. It is old, quaint, and absolutely charming. Even though they are clearly understaffed, not once did it impact the level of service or the friendly, helpful attitude of the staff. From the valet/bellman, front desk, housekeeping, and dining room staff, everyone was delightful! Yes, the elevator is out of service, but the workaround with the staff operated service elevator is completely acceptable and allowed us to personally interact with more of their cheerful staff. We stayed in a junior suite which was clean, comfortable, and again, charming, with a view of Yosemite Falls. The food in the dining room was exceptional with service you rarely find anymore. The Park was horribly crowded on Saturday, but we had our peaceful, quiet oasis in and around the Ahwahnee. Yes, it's expensive, but worth the price for the experience!
