Visiting a longtime friend in Baiyun district of Guangzhou, China. & hotel was close to my friend... Stayed four nights.. late November 2017. Transport & access to downtown Guangzhou: Baiyun is about 6 miles from city centre, Good access by wide modern road, lots of taxis and B.B cars [Chinese Uber style taxis] takes about 15 mins by road in less congested times. [[ Note: Guangzhou is a large city, many roads but also lots of modern vehicles EQUALS peak hour and weekend congestion!! ]] .. Hotel: Very busy hotel, large spacious rooms with all facilities. Accomodation: Very comfortable bed and pillows you sink into. great shower, large closet/cupboard, .. very quiet .. Air-con was efficient and quiet running. ... Food: Great breakfast , Asian style ie congee, eggs, noodles, rice, vegetables, with Western style.. bread, cereals, fruit juices, coffee and western-milk-tea., fresh fruit etc. Dinner: a choice of buffet restaurant or excellent Chinese-cuisine restaurant. . Nearest shopping Mall: Baiyunhui Plaza,, .. about five minutes taxi ride from the hotel. and easy to taxi back to the hotel Definitely would come back to this great hotel

“Good hotel but needs improvement”

Spacious and clean bedrooms, well decorated indoor communal spaces. The staff speaks very little English and the wi-fi signal is extremely poor. There is a swimming pool, however it's closed during the lunch break and no services are provided (no towels or bar).

Check in went smoothly and speaking to the front desk people was easy because they spoke english. Curtains and carpet in my room was dirty and stained. Check in went smoothly and speaking to the front desk people was easy because they spoke english. Curtains and carpet in my room was dirty and stained. Cleaning staff will make your bed and give you towels but I know they don't vacuum because I had dropped some crumbs from a cookie I ate and it was still there the whole week I stayed. Not sure what was going on but in the mornings my restroom had a sewer smell. I had to sleep with the bathroom door shut. The book in your room that gives you hotel information says you can exchange money at the front desk. When you go to the front desk they tell you they don't exchange anymore and that you will have to go to a bank. You ask the front desk to call a Taxi and the front desk tells you to just walk out off the property and wave one down yourself. Breakfast Buffet. Not much of an international choice. They have what they call Omelettes but it is really only an egg over easy. I showed them a picture of what an omelette is and if they could make one and they rudely said no and walked away!..lol The whole week I was there there was some function going on in the main ballroom and I could hear the music and cheering till late at night. The good part was that I was tired and able to sleep through it with a pillow over my head.

This hotel is close to the airport and handy for the university, where I was attending a conference. It is quite a way away from everything else. Unfortunately, for a hotel that supposedly caters for people on business trips etc., the language skills of the staff were pretty poor. Trying to arrange my booking over email was a nightmare, and if the one receptionist that spoke and understood English wasn't working, we were a bit stuck. Furthermore they had no concept of the chip and pin system, they kept trying to bypass it and I ended up having my card rejected because they didn't understand it - very bizarre, I can't believe that other guests don't use chip and pin, given that it is standard in Europe! This led to a nightmare trying to explain to staff that I needed to make an international call to my credit card company to find out what was wrong, even though I had no credit on my room (they impose some arbitrary limit, very weird behaviour, I don't know why they don't just keep a copy of your passport so you can't skip paying the bill, like literally everywhere else in the world). We ate in the Chinese restaurant one evening, the staff there also lacking language skills. In Europe, it's near impossible to get a job in hospitality if you don't speak at least one other language. The waitresses all stood there watching us while we tried to decide what to order, it was very unsettling. Rooms are fine, pool is nice (but take a swimming cap). Good selection of food at breakfast. I had a massage in the salon in the lobby, it left me black and blue. I don't know what happened, since I couldn't communicate with the therapist :(
