This is a very dated hotel and the section of town that it’s in is not the best. It appeared that there were some gangs hanging out across the street. Internet service was spotty because there is a tendency for the power to go out in the city and the generator at the hotel is dated and not reliable. That’s being said the front desk was wonderful. Very helpful and responsive. I had one of the rooms with a large balcony facing the street. Yes, there was some noise but very comfortable and spacious.

This Art Deco hotel opened in 1938 & it was hailed as having Pereira’s 1st elevator. Because of this hotel’s longevity & historic influence on Pereira, I had always wanted to stay here, & I’m glad I did. I was given a room in the back of the building, where it’s quieter, because it’s not on the street side. My room was on the 5th floor, & this floor was added onto the hotel in 1970, which maintained the Art Deco style. Upon entering, my first impression of this hotel was that it used to be very grand. But, nowadays, It just seems a bit drab. There’s a lot of Spanish colonial, heavy wood furniture throughout the hotel & I know that Art Deco & heavy Spanish colonial wood furniture can be mixed, but this requires a thoughtful approach to create a cohesive look & I didn’t feel that here. My room was comfortable, but nothing luxurious. I don’t think they have any luxury rooms at this hotel. TV in my room had a very nice selection of channels & there was even CNN & BBC in English. The shower was nice & hot. I read other reviews saying that they didn’t have electrical outlets near the bed, But, I had electrical outlets on each side of my bed, so I could charge my devices while using them & lie in bed at the same time. My bed & pillows were comfy & I slept very well, with my window open, which I enjoyed. This is definitely a solid 3 star hotel & that’s what I expected. So, there were no surprises; pleasant or unpleasant. I could’ve paid half the price at another hotel here in the city, but I opted to pay more & stay at a classic, historic hotel in Pereira & I’m glad I did. Breakfast was good, it wasn’t great, but it was good. Presentation was lacking in the dining room. There’s definitely nothing fancy about the breakfast set up. You’re provided a small portion of fruit, scrambled eggs & rice & pinto beans, which is a very basic version of Calentado (which I really enjoy) -because this hotel’s version is only the rice & beans & there’s no extras added in, such as meats or plantains. I was also given an arepa with delicious quesito (white cheese), orange juice & a cup of coffee. The dining room is in the basement of the hotel & I don’t remember seeing any windows. Again, drab. There were only 2 staff members working in the dining room & people were having to sit at dirty tables because they had not been cleaned yet. Check in & check out was a little slow because there was only one receptionist & there were people waiting at both times. The location is definitely a highlight to this hotel & it’s the main reason why I would stay here again. This hotel had nothing that turned me off from it. It’s just a very basic hotel, in a perfect location, with historical significance. In regards to Pereira in general, if you’re coming here as a tourist, I would suggest you staying in one of the phenomenally lovely & beautiful spa hotels located just on the outskirts of town. They’re really magnificent & a dream paradise come true! Pereira is a fantastic place to begin your journey to the world famous eje cafetero. During this trip to Pereira, I was only here for one night to take care of some business & it was just me in the room. I was content.
