I recently stayed at this property and found it to be nice and clean overall. The only issue I encountered was with the shower, as the water pressure was quite low, making it less enjoyable for a proper bath. On a positive note, the staff were very friendly and accommodating, and I appreciated being granted an early check-in. The location in Rye is also excellent. I would happily stay here again

“Exactly what I needed”

This hotel was good for what I needed - basic, local accommodation. The hotel itself is located up a hill, and the streets are cobbled so keep this in mind if travelling with limited mobility or a lot of luggage, but otherwise it's only a 5 minute walk to get almost everywhere around the quirky to… Plus

This hotel was good for what I needed - basic, local accommodation. The hotel itself is located up a hill, and the streets are cobbled so keep this in mind if travelling with limited mobility or a lot of luggage, but otherwise it's only a 5 minute walk to get almost everywhere around the quirky town. Within my room, I had a bathroom which was down a couple of fairly steep steps within the room. Again, not a problem for me but worth noting to the hotel if you do have any issues with mobility. The shower is not fixed, it is a hand held shower head in a bath which is not preferable for me. The room was pretty spacious and well equipped with anything I might need, including lots of amenities (shampoos, biscuits, hair dryer etc.). My biggest complaint about the hotel would be that the reception area smells like dog food which did impact my first impression of the place, but once I was in my room, I was pleasantly surprised. Nothing exceptional, but good value for a basic room that is well located within the town.

We've stayed at Hope Anchor many times over the last 10 years and it has always been enjoyable although some rooms are much better quality than others. . Unfortunately the hotel, while old & quirky is in great need of a refurb and we hope this is on the cards with the new owners. We were allocated a small double called "Rooftops", it was tiny with lots of old random shabby bits of furniture, no room to move around and the bathroom was so small it was not fit for purpose, nowhere at all to set any belongings. Breakfast is decent, cooked to order and staff are lovely. Charming Rye is a great place to visit for a short break - highly recommend the town!
