Me and my husband stayed at La Barbarie last week when visiting Guernsey, sadly for a funeral. On the first night our plane was delayed by a few hours which meant we would arrive late for check in, I spoke to the lady on the phone at reception and she was so lovely and helpful, she waited up for us so that there was someone there for when we arrived. The room was lovely, it had the little luxury extra's like robes, slippers, biscuits and hot chocolates. The room was warm but it was easy to turn down the temperature if needed. The lady at reception also found me some decaf tea bags. Breakfast was lovely the next day too. The hotel is in a great location, with a bus stop directly outside. They even have bus timetable's in reception! We found getting the bus around the island very straight forward. We would love to stay here again, when visiting the lovely Guernsey.

“Excellent place and excellent staff”

Had a great stay at the hotel. Wonderful and accommodating staff, hopefully we will visit again. Hotel and rooms were in good shape and clean, great selection of quality food for both breakfast and evening meals. Very nice cocktails too.

A lovely rural hotel in the parish of St. Martin, about 10 minutes drive from the airport and 15-20 minutes from St. Peter Port. Located on narrow, winding roads, the hotel provides an excellent base for exploring the island. Reception is friendly, efficient and knowledgeable, rooms are nicely decorated, beds are comfortable, and bathrooms with walk-in shower are spotless. Efficient and capable staff freshen up the room each day. There is a pool and a large sitting area outside (but not in use due to inclement weather during our stay). As for clientele, La Barbarie appears to have a loyal following of older seniors who return annually. The hotel has ample parking and is serviced by a local bus that runs past the property. We dined here twice while staying at the hotel and found each meal excellent, but requiring some comment. On our first foray we tried the ribeye steak and lamb shank. They were well cooked and nicely presented, but each suffered from a lack of seasoning. Even some rosemary in the pan with the steak would have been appreciated, and possibly some mint on the side for lamb. The second time we tried Guernsey Skate, Salmon Three Ways, and Guernsey goat cheese on air dried ham with figs and honey. The Skate and its accompanying vegetables were perfectly cooked, the Guernsey goat cheese deliciously smooth, and the simple addition of the homemade pickled cucumber to the salmon perfect. As for service, it was initially cheerful, prompt and professional both times, but as the meals progressed we saw our servers less and less. In the second instance we had to wait some time to order dessert and then pay our bill. Considering both meals, a 4.5 rating best sums up our dining experience, but since any hiccups were minor, the La Barbarie restaurant scores a 5. Dinner reservations recommended.

A local staycation and first time staying here. Beautiful upgrade to a pool side room, lovely amenities and very clean. Staff friendly and a lovely evening. My wife is a little fussy, but the staff / kitchen were to to try and something off menu for her. We were told, next time to pre advise if there wasn’t something on the menu and they would do something to order - that was nice to know. Beautiful cooked breakfast next morning, but continental with extras was available to help yourself to. When checking out, the staff asked what could be done to improve the staycation, and were then advised about pre-advising when next staying. What was very very good, was they asked some of my wife’s favorite dishes, and they notes against our name on file, so next time it would help the kitchen. Definitely stay again, and I forget all about the pool, a really private outdoor sun trap; so look in g to stay during the summer months next time.
