“A beautiful room, good location, but noisy”

The room has a balcony with a view, a bar fridge, a comfortable king-sized bed, a table and three chairs, a flat-screen TV (that we didn't use), and a nice bathroom. The room has a balcony with a view, a bar fridge, a comfortable king-sized bed, a table and three chairs, a flat-screen TV (that we didn't use), and a nice bathroom. There's also potable water out of the faucet. Good location: close to Plaza Mayor, restaurants, groceries (and cervezas), etc. They have complimentary coffee, fruit, and water in the lobby. The breakfasts are also tasty: we have a choice of fruit juice or fresh fruit, eggs done as we like, buns with butter and jam, and coffee or hot chocolate. A lovely hotel, and our room is facing the street, and hence is very noisy. We sleep with ear-plugs so the noise doesn't bother us as much as it would some others. When we checked in, we did look at some other rooms, and some of the back rooms are small and with little natural light.There's no elevator. Staff will help with luggage, but for people with mobility challenges this could be a problem.

The hotel is very well located, just at the entrance of the city, within easy walking distance to the center and touristic parts of the city. Its is also easy to go to other touristic places outside the city, avoiding the traffic of the center. The Hotel is nice, the rooms are small, and the staff is very kind. BUT, the rooms and the hotel in general has noise problems: you can easily ear what is going on in the kitchen, the music of the staff, noise from other rooms, etc... A pitty, especially during the night or in the morning.

“Nice but not as described”

We booked this hotel through booking.com, and, although it was a fairly decent basic hotel, it was not what we were lead to believe. Booking.com said it had air conditioning and mountain views. We booked this hotel through booking.com, and, although it was a fairly decent basic hotel, it was not what we were lead to believe. Booking.com said it had air conditioning and mountain views. We saw 3 rooms and none had AC, fan or any view at all! Our initial room was very dark with a window which faced immediately onto the wall of another building, allowing very little light in. We noticed a loud electrical noise right outside which occurred every few minutes, perhaps a generator of some kind. We figured it would keep us awake and tried to ask if it would continue all night, but it was a little difficult to get our point across with limited Spanish. We eventually asked to move rooms, and were given a 3 person room with a double and single bed, which was fine, although there was no external window, only one facing into the central area. However, 5 minutes later, the woman from reception knocked on our door to tell us she hadn't realised we were staying more than one night, and that this room was in fact booked from tomorrow. So we moved again to the only available room, which had 2 single beds- not ideal for a couple, but the room was larger and, in fairness, it was our choice to move from the original double, so we decided to take it. This too didn't have a proper window, just a small skylight with a curtain we could not reach to open. Although AC was not really needed, the room did get very hot and stuffy during the day and a fan or a window which opened would have made it more pleasant. The hotel and rooms were clean and pleasant with a nice terrace. A few minor things, such as our towels not being changed, toiletries not replaced and minibar never refilled, could be improved upon. Staff were friendly and helpful, but non-Spanish speaking guests should be aware no English is spoken, so it may be difficult to make requests understood. It is located a 10 minute walk outside the old town, on a quiet street which is good for sleep quality but a little creepy to walk along late at night- nobody around.All in all a nice hotel but it is not accurately described on booking.com and may lead to disappointment if you are expecting mountain views and air conditioned rooms!

I booked this hotel thru Expedia. Most of the hotel info was wrong. Here is the truth. The Hotel Santa Maria is located on the main highway leading into Villa de Leyva from Tunja. The Hotel is located an easy ten minute walk from downtown Plaza Mayor and five minutes from the bus stop. There are sidewalks to the Plaza and the way is lighted at night for a safe stroll. This hotel is currently not shown on Google maps but is immediately adjacent to Posada La Villa de Alcala which is. There are several cheap places to eat and a small supermarket on the way to the Plaza. No English is spoken at this hotel. We were able to get by with our limited Spanish. However, had a problem arisen, communication would have been difficult. Our room was on the second floor with no elevator. The room had free, fast wifi, a very comfortable kingsize bed, and a large (47inch?) flat screen tv. There were many tv channels but none in English. The small bathroom had a tiled shower, rain head with plenty of pressure and hot water. There was no heating or cooling but neither were badly needed during our stay. The room had only one chair. Our room had a small balcony overlooking the street. The property was modern, very clean and well maintained. The room had no soundproofing at all. The street noise, adjacent room noise, and hall noise made sleeping difficult. There is a soccer arena across the street producing noise along with the usual barking dogs, crowing roosters, etc. By the third night we were sleeping through the noise. The free breakfast was a disappointment. It consisted only of fruit juice(no whole fruit), rolls, and your choice of eggs.
