“Hotel was good. Restaurant deplorable. TACAÑO is Spanish for "stingy"”

First off, let me say that we were on a package coach tour, so that may have had some bearing on the matter. HOWEVER, we've been on many similar trips and have never encountered such stingy, unattractive presentation and service. Quality of food served during three lunches and two dinners varied from laughable (everyone, including the Spaniards) to "not too bad". Breakfasts were meager representations of "continental" breakfasts. I am used to having to ask for pepper in most restaurants in Spain, but this one, with a dining room serving up to 75 at one meal could only provide one tiny shaker. It was presented at our table and later removed and taken to another. I went to a store and bought my own before the next meal. At most meals we had to ask for olive oil; almost unheard of in Spain. The wine was barely acceptable, being bulk wine served in used bottles with stained and dog-eared labels. I wondered whether the bottles were rinsed, and at our last lunch just prior to departure, I distinctly tasted at least day-old wine which has apparently been watered down. Desserts were often fruit served without plates or packaged yogurt which had been sitting on the table for God-knows-how-long. I won't go into a blow-by-blow description of all the meals. Suffice it to say, that I would never have eaten a second meal there, had I not already paid for it, though I did seriously consider going out. My wife dissuaded me.

“Weekend Stay”

We were on a coach trip of 54 people and stayed from Friday lunch until Sunday afternoon. The hotel couldn't have tried more to help and accomodate all our needs. We were on a coach trip of 54 people and stayed from Friday lunch until Sunday afternoon. The hotel couldn't have tried more to help and accomodate all our needs. We stayed on a full board basis, the food for all our meals was 'ok', but not adventurous. The bedrooms were a little 'tired' but clean and comfortable and the bar prices were reasonable. Enjoyed our stay.

I went with fifty other people on a coach trip. We had full board, which while not gourmet was perfectly adequate considering how cheap it was. The staff were very attentive and certainly served us as best they could. Mtge rooms were comfortable and very clean. A great centre for visiting the National Park, Ubeda, Baeza and some hilltop villages.
