What a totally amazing weekend staying at this great hotel. Girls weekend away. 6 people. Stayed in two “family rooms”. 2 bedrooms. 2 bathrooms which was really handy. The staff are exceptionally friendly. The beds and pillows are super comfy. Towels are fluffy. Happy hour free drink at 5pm. Lovely funky little place in a great location. Lots of restaurants around. We saw Grease and it’s a 2min walk to the State Theatre. Close to Bourke street tram station. Free trams around the City. I will never stay in a big chain hotel again. The staff called us before we came to check our bed configuration preference. They knew our names when we turned up. I can’t wait to go back! Best hotel experience I have ever had.

“Great location, but will be staying elsewhere next time.”

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and overall had a good experience. The location is great- very centrally located in the CBD and easily walking distance to the Southbank, Bourke Street Mall, Botanical Gardens, Flinders Street, the river, trams, etc. There are TONS and TONS of restaurants to eat nearby. There are probably 20 places to choose from just within a 1 minute walk. There's also a large Woolworths about a 2 minute walk way. The one thing I will say about this hotel is that they love the color black. Everything was in black and the hotel just had a dark feeling to it. I arrived at 10pm and when I walked into the lobby, I was quite dis-oriented because the lights were so dimmed that it just felt out of place and unwelcoming. I then go into the elevator, which is all black and almost completely dark, to then make it to my room only to find, what a surprise, mostly everything is black- from the carpet to the picture frame, to the picture in the picture frame, to the granite in the bathroom, to the bathroom floor, to the dressers, to the nightstand, to even the bar of SOAP! Yes, the hand soap was literally black, which was a bit odd because every time I'd wash my hands, the water would turn black and it just made me feel like my hands were dirty when I was supposed to be making them clean. Honestly, all the black made me feel a bit claustrophobic and I'm usually not one to be claustrophobic. I don't think it helped that the room was a bit on the smaller side and my window overlooked an alley and a very tall building so even during the day I got very little, if any, natural light. I almost thought that I was going to have to ask for another room and/or go to another hotel because I just felt so boxed in, but I just ended up staying. There's also a tv screen in the elevator that plays a very odd video of man sitting at a table (I noticed some other reviewers have posted some pics of it here)... I'm not quite sure what the point of that is, but it's unnecessary and just feels a bit weird. Another thing is that there are 4-5 steep steps from the street to the hotel. I had a very heavy luggage (about 60 pounds) and it was a struggle to get it up those steps. When I walked into the reception, the employee saw that I was a bit flustered and said that I should have told him and he would have utilized the elevator that is intended for wheelchair use. However, there's no signs or anything that indicate this, so I'm not sure how/why he would have expected me to know this. I was also the only person in the lobby at that time, so I was surprised that he didn't come out to assist me. When checking out, I did ask to utilize the wheelchair elevator, so I'd definitely recommend asking to use it if need be. The hotel was clean. I did call the front desk several times asking for extra body wash, etc. and they were always very accommodating and provided them right away. Overall, despite the great location, I'll be staying elsewhere next time, as I need to stay at a place that feels a bit lighter and brigter- both literally and figuratively.
