“Great for a short stay”

Super easy to find - right across from the train station. In a walkable area with lots of food options. Self-serve check-in was a first for us, but luckily there was a staff person hanging around. Room was small but from what I understand it would be fairly standard for a Japanese business hotel. Comfortable twin beds. The hotel has a supply of various personal hygeine items that you may have forgotten in the main lobby. An option for breakfast was available, but we did not try it.

“Great location for an over night stay”

We stayed here for 1 night on our way to Hakuba. The hotel is literally across the road from the main railway station. We had stayed in a Fresa hotel in kyoto, so we knew what to expect. I have to say the check-in process is meant to be self-serve, but if you're not from JapanI'm not sure how seamless it is. On both occasions, we still required the reception to check us in. For a family of 4, we had 2 twin rooms. They are small. That's Japan, though, for cheaper to mid range hotels. Just know that you will have no room for large cases to be open or easily accessed. Our location was central. We were able to walk to the Temple, and back the afternoon, we arrived and soaked in the sights. Beds are more comfortable here than the other Fresa hotel. Staff are friendly. Only negative is that there are only 2 washing machine/dryers for the hotel. After trying 4 times in a 3 hour period to do our washing we gave up as they were always in use and people were camped out waiting to is them, which we didn't have the time for.

“Good location”

Room is small but the twin beds are good size. Buffet breakfast adequate. Easy access from nagano station. Close to bus terminal. If taking bus to Hakuba, you can purchase ticket at alpico machine just round the corner from hotel or pay on the bus. Food outlets near hotel offer varied choices.

One of two former Sunroute hotels, one either side of Nagano station, both where we have stayed on previous visits. This has become a Sotetsu Fresa Inn, the other the Courtland. A couple of minutes walk from the station, and directly above a convenience store and with several restaurants very near the hotel, Fresa Inn is ideally located. Despite reserving months in advance, we were very disappointed to find that we had been allocated a smoking room on the 6th floor, directly above reception on the 5th floor. As two former smokers, we find the acrid stench of stale cigarette smoke extremely unpleasant. We asked for a non smoking room but none was available. The portable aircon/air freshener did not succeed in clearing the unpleasant odour. The room was reasonable in size, with good facilities and the buffet breakfast was very good, though the slowness of the two toasters was a bit annoying. Good hotel in general, but unfortunate in receiving a smoking room, at the front of the hotel, on the lowest floor, subject to noise from the street below.
