“Very Spacious, Luxurious & close to Transit.”

I stayed at the Rhino Hotel in Kyoto for 3 nights from March 27 to 30. Out of the hotels I stayed in in Japan this was the absolute best. I only experienced one major issue with this hotel (more on that later). The room we were assigned was so large I was blown away with how much space we had. There were two double beds & two sofa beds if needed. The bathroom was incredible with a huge bathtub & an amazing shower area with a waterfall and handheld shower head. Quite simply the room was exquisite with coffee/tea provided, a smart TV to access Netflix, YouTube or Amazon Prime & there's even a Bose speaker system in the ceiling as long as you have a auxiliary cable. The hotel is in a great location too as it's about 150 metres from the Saiin subway station so we were able to access all of Kyoto's tourist spots easily. I loved everything about the Rhino except for one thing. Throughout my two week stay in Japan I was able to utilize the hotel's services for sending my luggage through third party transport services like Yamato Transport. I did this from Narita Airport to Tokyo, Tokyo to Osaka & Osaka to Kyoto. Upon check out on March 30 I did the same with the front desk with three extremely pleasant associates helping with the paperwork as I wanted my bags shipped from Kyoto to Narita by April 1 which was my departure date. I even showed the desk clerks my flight information & figured there would be no issues. I received a rather strange email from the Rhino on the evening of March 30 asking me for my flight info or they would not be able to send my bags out as there were three of us there were 3 luggages. So I replied back 90 minutes later with my flight info with no response assuming everything was ok. As I arrived in Narita on April 1 in Terminal 3 I went to Yamato Transport to pick up my bags & received a note to call the hotel. The hotel never sent out my luggage citing they never received my flight info even though 3 associates & an email were sent to the hotel. So the hotel agreed to send my luggage to Manila, Philippines which was my next stop as of writing this review on April 12th. I have not received my luggage yet. It's unfortunate that a mistake like this has left a bad taste in my mouth. I attribute this to a major miscommunication, but to have something important like my personal belongings be missing for two weeks is unacceptable. I've never experienced anything like this throughout my travels & had no other issues with any other hotels in Japan. I won't give the Rhino a bad rating because it was a wonderful stay. But I hope the Management there understands what kind of an inconvenience they put me through.

“Comfortable, clean and close to the station”

Stayed here on a tour. Hotel is located quite close to the station if you want to catch the train into Kyoto centre - not a difficult task at all. Hotel staff were very friendly. Lots of variety at breakfast, both western and Japanese food. Room was comfortable. Would reccomend.

“Convenient”

Stayed here for four nights in 2 rooms . One large and one very small. Both rooms extremely clean and serviced well daily . “Great location - I’d stay here again”

We stayed here for 5 nights and the location was great! It’s literally 1 minute away from Saiin train station, and near a bus stop for lots of buses too. There was a massive 7/11 on the ground floor with loads of pre-made meals and fruit smoothies. There seemed to be a brothel on this street, but it didn’t bother us, there was no rowdiness. There were also a number of restaurants around the hotel incl McDonald’s. By far the best thing about staying here was the amazing Indian restaurant called Syorai Kitchen Saiin which was a few doors down from McDonald’s away from the hotel. It had the most delicious food at the lowest prices and was immaculately clean. We loved it so much, we went there every day when we discovered it halfway through our stay! You could get a meal with curry, chicken tikka, salad, mango lassi and a massive naan bread for 1200 yen! The hotel staff were always helpful and they stored our luggage on checkout day for several hours. The main reason we chose the hotel was for the pool. Whilst you have to pay 1100 yen per person each time you use the pool/gym it was worth it, because the pool was large and was a beautiful temperature (and you can wear a swimsuit). But if you think you’re going to be able to play and splash around with your family in this pool, think again! It’s a very serious pool with each lane allocated to either walking or swimming laps, no “free” area as such. They’re strict on the swimming cap and goggles rule, so you need to bring them, but they do provide you with a towel to use. The supervisors/life guards are lovely and friendly and provide their instructions in a very gentle manner. There are also 2 spas (both very hot!) an onsen for each gender where you gave to be naked (we didn’t use it) and a generous change room with lockers and a seating area with a free massage chair to use. It is closed on mondays though. The room itself was a good size although a little outdated, and fairly clean. The aircon worked well and there is a small fridge and a desk and chair in the room as well as a large wardrobe. The room is serviced daily and they also provide a clean set of pyjamas to wear each night. Unfortunately the hotel only provides one physical room key per room which is quite dirty, but you can leave your key at reception anytime so if you need to share the key you can do so. The pillows were also super uncomfortable and were mainly filled with hard beans with a bit of wadding on top and were too high and hard. We asked for other pillows, but they only had a couple of very flat polyester pillows we could join together to make one mediocre pillow, so only 1 of the four of us got a good pillow. There is no safe in the room, so I lugged our passports around every time we went out. I’d definitely stay here again!

“Nice hotel”

The rooms are clean and nice, the staff is nice and professional. The breakfast is Japanese and western and just great. Unfortunately the spa is not for people with tatoos - not even covered. That's the only minus
