I recently had avery special family gathering in the Viking hotel and it was just perfect! The staff couldn’t have looked after us any better! Very attentive and always making sure we had everything! The food was absolutely beautiful and even though it’s a busy hotel it was very intimate at the same time! Great atmosphere! Thanks to Louise and her team for making this day so special on such short notice! Will absolutely be back in the very near future! Sinéad ❤️

“Disappointing Business overnight to the Viking.”

Always a fan of the Viking (and still am) but my most recent visit was a tad disappointing. The location, comfort. price etc suits me for work as I have a few Customers in Waterford and surrounding areas which I need to visit from time to time. Booked online to avail of the discounted pricing and a free drink. Check in / out was fast and efficient. Room was clean, huge, functional and exceeded my needs but fit for purpose. My disappointment lay in the evening visit to the bar for dinner and drinks. It was off the usual high standard which I have always experienced at the Viking...... It was a busy evening and there was a large queue at the desk which continued up the steps. This resulted in a delay to get seated and place my order. I was eventually located in the breakfast area. Ordered a pint of Heineken which was dull and lifeless. I tasted it and sent it back asking the staff to put a bit of life into it! The return pint wasn't much better (usually the Heineken is 9+ out of 10). I spotted the usual barman and hailed him - he immediately took the pint and replaced it with a hugely improved pint! Staff training? Didn't bother with a second but did have a glass of free wine. Ordered a starter (prawns and chorizo) and mains (meat feast pizza). Table was not set properly and no water was offered. The regular barman spotted the errors and rectified them straight away. I should have his name but cannot remember it. He's there every visit and is well on top of his job. Starter was good but the pizza looked like it was inconsistently cooked across the top (maybe needed to be turned around more during the cook cycle? I see my local chipper spinning the pizzas during the cook cycle for a consistent finish?). I have had this dish before and enjoyed it (as well as many others) but the actual result did not reflect the name i.e. meat "feast" pizza - in my case it was more "spot the meat" unfortunately. I did eat most of it and didn't complain. Breakfast was good and I have no complaints other than I miss not having a few mushrooms? Agreed, these are not always available in other hotels at breakfast its just something I would enjoy, if offered. Orange juice is average at best. I didn't raise these points at any stage (my bad) but it wouldn't stop me from returning. The staff are generally friendly and attentive - perhaps they were overwhelmed on the night? Will I return? Definitely.
