As part of our road trip in NSW, we made a stop in Port Macquarie staying at Sails. The last few days has been rainy. It was so lovely to finally see the sun and we spent some time enjoying the pool. Overall friendly and efficient service. The room facing the beautiful garden is very comfortable. Breakfast at the Boathouse facing the pier is relaxing, with adequate variety. Do note there is extra charge for the barrister coffee. Also extra for parking which is managed by ´external vendor’. Within walking distance, there are other dinning and shopping options. Though many restaurants are closed on Mondays. It’s about 15min walk from town centre.

“NOISY”

Whatever you do avoid rooms overlooking the pool. Noisy all the time up to 10.00pm when there were still idiots in the pool chatting. Never again

“Stingey and inconsistent”

We were initially impressed by Sails with its look and ideal location overlooking the marina, the receptionist, Adelaide, was lovely and accommodating. The room we were allocated (A$500) was overlooking the car park so we changed it for one looking over the marina which was another A$60 per night. The pool was OK, bar area fine but the restaurant was, in keeping with the rest of our stay, inconsistent. The older lady at breakfast was hostile as were the staff behind the counter- how dare we ask for breakfast bowls! We ate here for one evening and it was all a bit hurried as, clearly, they wanted to shut at 8.30. And as for the bar it was shut after our meal even though it was advertised as being open "12pm til late" guys- 9pm isn't late unless you're under 5. At check out we were charged A$4.50 for a bottle of water from the room and A$15 per day for parking- very stingey and not what we had experienced after 3 weeks in Australia.

“Stunning hotel overlooking Hastings river although is let down in other areas”

The hotel is lovely and has an absolutely stunning pool area which overlooks the Hastings river. The location of the hotel is somewhat out of the way from the main hub of Port Macquarie. This is okay but personally I much prefer staying at Rydges, which is closer to restaurants, beaches and the Breakwall for walks. I do like Zebu (Rydges) as well. It has a wider of selection of food and larger entertaining area, only $21 for a cocktail. Food and drinks at Sails are very expensive too. Unfortunately, when we stayed over New Year for 6 nights, the pool area was overrun by small children, 20 young children sitting in the spa is off putting to others who would like to enjoy the spa too. The hotel management should take this into consideration that we are all paying a premium amount to stay at this hotel. Children jumping in and out of a spa splashing others who would like to sit there in peace, is not enjoyable. Their parents just sit there and “do not discipline their children” jumping off the water feature and diving into the pool when there is a sign that clearly states not to do this. The hotel needs to monitor this issue a bit more closely. Not only is it annoying to others, it is a danger to children.
