Just just back from our 7 day stay at this Occidental resort and it was excellent. Found the rooms to be perfect and pretty quiet. We looked at upgrading to the Royal level but they wanted $75 U.S per person per day, which in our eyes was not worth the upgrade price of over $1000 for 2 people for a week. We found the 3 restaurants pretty good but the Mexican and Italian restaurants were just ok. The buffet was a good size and had a good selection of food. The staff works so hard for little pay so please tip, tip, tip. The activity staff was awesome! Shout out to Eva, Denise, Jesus and especially Milton. The amazing beach and Ocean are just steps away with hardly anyone there. The pool bar staff was also excellent and very fast getting your drinks. We will definitely be back!

This was my first experience in Nuevo Vallarta and the Occidental did not disappoint! The front desk staff were always helpful and Jessica at the front was always there to help when needed. We booked our restaurants in the morning. The concierge opens at 9 am, so get there a bit early. We were able to book multiple restaurants in one sitting. Depending on the number of nights you are staying will determine how many times you can book a restaurant. Towels - make sure to hang onto your beach towels. If you do not return them we were told you will be charged $25 US. This is what we were told by another family at the resort. We would go down around 6:30 am to place our towels on chairs to reserve a spot by the pool. When we were there in March Jessica told us about the Tuesday market at the hospital parking lot. We went and would recommend skipping breakfast that day to enjoy the food at the market!! We really enjoyed this. 1. Food The food experience was overall excellent. We ate at the buffet every morning and there were plenty of options for everyone, even with dietary restrictions. They had an omelet bar, made fresh to order, and it was excellent. I do not remember the gentleman's name but he always would seat us. He greeted us every day and always had a smile on his face. Our server David always checked in on us and made us feel welcome. Lunch For lunch, we would go to the snack bar at the Mexican restaurant. This was technically a full buffet as well. The food and service were great here too. Restaurants Mexican - I enjoyed the food here. The guac and chips to start were delicious. The food was served in a timely manner and the wait staff always checked in to see if we needed anything. Italian - the food and service here were above and beyond. We had the Mahi Mahi with Mushroom Risotto, I could have eaten this every night. Hibachi - Our chef was fun and put on a good show. The food was great, however, due to reservations, it was a lot quicker than a traditional Hibachi, so be prepared to eat a bit quicker! Sushi - This was probably my least favourite, however, the food and service were very good. 2. Daily and Evening Entertainment -Yoga, Zumba, Dance, Aquasize, Waterpolo, Water Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Bingo.... yes a great variety of things to do, or you can just relax by the beach or the pool I am not sure what I was expecting, as this was my first Inclusive experience but the daytime activities were a lot of fun!!! The staff always went above and beyond to ensure that you were having a great time. Staff - Milton - he was amazing - always ensuring that something was going on throughout the day. We had great conversations with him and he would check in to see how we were doing. He was also a lot of fun during Bingo at 5 Eva - She was so much fun!! I did Zumba, Dance and Water Aerobics (Aquasize) with her. Her energy is very infectious and she was just AMAZING. She would say hi to us every day and she goes above and beyond in everything that she does. Vincent - also very good. You could hear his voice throughout the day and he was always friendly. The evening entertainment was a lot of fun! My favourites were Michael Jackson, The Circus Show and the Mariachi Band. On Thursdays, they have a games night where you can earn "fake pesos" to then bid in the live actions. There are a number of items to bid on, this was a lot of fun! Pool Side Service: This was above a beyond. They were always around and checked in on you, in a good way. Javier (I think that was his name) was always helpful and kind. Pool Bar My big shout-out here is to Jesus ( I think it is Jesus Garcias). He was my absolute favourite. I would practice my Spanish with him and he was absolutely OUTSTANDING!!! Evening Inside Bar: After the outdoor entertainment, you could go inside for more fun! The evening bartenders were a lot of fun, shout-out to Rene and Andreas for always having a smile and just being amazing!! Room: Our room had an ocean view, but we did not pay for a balcony. We were literally in our room to sleep, shower and change. We were out of the room in the mornings before 8 am every day, back to shower before supper and not back until after the evening entertainment. The room was always clean and our fridge was always stocked. The beds were comfy. The only drawback was the pressure in the shower. This was an amazing place to stay! I loved the staff, food and location! You are close to the mall, hospital, and the port where you go for water excursions. It was a quick ride to Bucerias and PV. I look forward to going back to the Occidental in Nuevo, hopefully next year!! I found this to be a nice-sized resort where the staff remembered you and always made you feel welcome. Thank you to the Occidental for a fantastic first All-Inculsive experience.

“Repeat customer”

We really like the resort. But we so enjoy having a balcony but the extra charge for it is getting too expensive. We booked a royal jr suite, was given a run down 2 bedroom, complained and manager was really good and upgraded us to jacuzzi suite Which was wonderful. Maid service very hit and miss... more

We really like the resort. But we so enjoy having a balcony but the extra charge for it is getting too expensive. We booked a royal jr suite, was given a run down 2 bedroom, complained and manager was really good and upgraded us to jacuzzi suite Which was wonderful. Maid service very hit and miss for time of day. Would live to come back, but due to price for royal balcony may prevent us..
