“What a place!”

Really nice place with many swi.ming pools and a large breakfast area, very rich for food (both sweet and other things). The room was perfect. The bed was really noisy ehile moving anyway, it was really comfortable. The receptionhall s impressive.

Outstanding hotel and one which gets better and better with every stay. Lovely staff, very responsive. Food was much improved on last stay and the room they provided us was exceptional with the best view I could imagine. I’d highly recommend. A true 5 star hotel.

So I mostly write this review because of the awesome staff in the hotel. But especially because of that one incredible waitress who was serving our table during our stay during the dinner buffet. I wanted to give her a nice tip and a note thanking for her awesome service tonight but unfortunately she does not seem to be working tonight. I was there with my mom and my grandma for a family vacation, she was serving the area with the skylight in the buffet restaurant for at least the last 3 days, wearing glasses, an put-up Hairstyle and wearing her tablet via a shoulder strap. Don't get me wrong, all the staff here is great, but she was on another level. Radiating some awesome energy, smiling at all the guests. It was truly mesmerising. Whatever she earns, she deserves a raise. I do not remember her name and for a tip it's too late now, and nice words might not make up for it, but still, this incredible hospitality worker deserves a raise, she was incredible! Also the waiter at the unique breakfast was amazing. The hotel itself is not perfect. Except the pools. But the staff is really awesome, and I can't say it often enough but that woman who served us, she is really really incredible.

We have spent one week, with half pension, at the Lopesan Villa del Conde in Gran Canaria, a 5-star hotel. As a summary of what you going to read here: Fantastic infrastructure and amazingly warm and efficient service. The food? In some aspects, appropriate for a 3-star hotel. The hotel is beautiful in terms of architecture and gardens. Really amazing. See the pictures at the website, they are real. Warm and cold swimming pools, and even a salty one. The crew is also great. Super polite people and always there for you, for whatever you need. Now, the critical point, the one you should really consider before booking this hotel: the meals. There is a main restaurant for the breakfast and the buffet-dinners. If you book for a week, you are given two dinners at any a la carte restaurant of the hotel group, either in this hotel or the Bao-Bab or Costa Meloneras. I have written a review for Ovo, the one in this hotel. The restaurant at Bao Bab was also very good. So, what is the problem? Both the breakfast and the buffet-dinner are very poor in terms of quality, of course not in every aspect to be fair. I did complain early on, but saw no changes while there. In fact, I did check other comments in Tripadvisor, and unfortunately the same criticism has been outlined in several occasions, meaning that the management does not care. Buh. Breakfast: eggs ok, omelettes ok, crepes and pankakes, ok. Ibericos like salchichon and chorizo, ok. Sometimes you also get jamon iberico, but seldomly. What is wrong? Salami and jamon are the cheapest. The selection of cheeses excludes spanish cheese, but is rich in Cheddar, Brie and other weird cheese… Where is the parmesan? Where is the mozzarella? Oh no, those are expensive and the goal is to save money! Another pearl is the fruit: someone said that they combine frozen or canned fruit (80%) with fresh fruit. And then, from the fresh one, you can only eat proper grapes and kiwis. Oranges taste nothing. The worst is the papayas: you need an electric knife to deal with them. I complained 3 times: no response. A friend got as an answer: Ok, eat something else. Yeah, I do this at home, but not here. Isn't this a 5-star hotel? Finally, two issues that, in my opinion, define a hotel: the orange juice and the coffee. The orange juice is concentrate. For the coffee, you only have two proper machines, which are hard to distinguish from those that use nescafe powder. People do not realise; how comes? The dinner buffet: Main problem is that the food gets cold. They provide a paella, which you bring to your table and is already at room temperature. I spotted the problem, but nothing has changed in that week. Of course, because there are comments from other people saying exactly the same three months ago. Again, they do not care! Same goes for the meet that comes from the oven: is left there, with a pretty mild lamp to keep it warm. Yet, you get your portion, and is already at room temp. There are several pots on the side as a contour for fish or meat. Again, those are just warm. I have decided – and it is my advice to you – to stick to the grill (meat or fish; sorry for the vegetarians) and rush to my table with a salad as a side dish or wok-vegetables (vegetarians, try this) that are cooked besides the grill and are great. A good one, the special salads that you get now and then, as entrance. Desserts look good, but taste nothing, with few exceptions. These are my own views, but do align perfectly well with those of other people I got to know here. In fact, the food tragedy had become a favourite topic, rather than other things in life. Isn’t that fair? If people do not complain, nothing is gonna change. May be the management and the employees at the restaurants should provide a survey, in case they really want to know what is happening. Do they? Two extra notes: the cutlery! The knives are symmetric (!) meaning that you do not know which side is the spicy one. To my request, I was told that you have to find the logo. Aha, where is the logo? Very much washed out. And then, even if you found it, how do you deal with meat? Thumbs up for the restaurant at the swimming pool. A single lunch, but super. Back to the beginning, beautiful hotel and beautiful people, but food is essential and in this case is far from the one you expect (and pay!) at a 5-star hotel. My feeling is that the hotel is saving on food, which is unacceptable for a 5-star hotel.
