“Peaceful Lakeside Setting”

This budget hotel offered us clean, comfortable and warm bedrooms within a couple of metres of the lakeside. It was nice to have the option of a full size bath. A downside is that with only a ffrench door it is not possible to feel secure as with a partly open window. The scenery was unspoilt and romantic: high crags and shetland ponies. The restaurant offered basic breakfast but one can hardly complain at the price. However, fresh bread would have been nice. The receptionist was very helpful in printing us suitable walks in this stunningly beautiful valley. There is an enormous choice of walks for all abilities. One of the highest mountains in Central France, the Puy Marie is accessible by road up to a high pass or by the hard way for climbers. Obviously the High Season will be busier. I would recommend May/June as the ideal time for seeing wild flora. After the Tour De France passed by a couple of years ago, motorists and aspiring cyclists have to get used to sharing the roads.

“A beautiful location, disappointing restaurant”

We had a room overlooking the lake which is beautiful and it was a quiet time of year so no noise at all. The bathroom and bedroom are perfectly functional but there is no window in the room - only a French door - so you can't sleep with the window open when the weather's nice. We had a room overlooking the lake which is beautiful and it was a quiet time of year so no noise at all. The bathroom and bedroom are perfectly functional but there is no window in the room - only a French door - so you can't sleep with the window open when the weather's nice. The staff was young and the rather laisser aller ambience gave the impression that the boss was away on vacation! We had drinks and dinner at the restaurant overlooking the lake which is gorgeous. No ice or nibbles with the drinks. The hot food was inedible. Disappointing!

“Helpful staff and good views”

The hotel is a fisherman's lodge style. On a nice lake with good views. The staff were very good and the help they gave in booking our forward journey to Le Puy en Velay was very good using the manager's computer to do the bookings. Dinner was good but the menu was the same for the whole week. We were going to stay for 5 days but shortened stay to 3 days. Went to top of Le Puy Mary [Drove], great restaurant at the top. Cold and misty when there in June, so was a cosy meal. Fishermen/and women will love it at hotel. Salers is worth a visit. The walkways go passed the rooms and are a bit of a pain and there's no window ventilation to the wooden cabins. There's an outer wood door can be closed on top of the glazed door, but they must have different building regulations to UK as the is no separate way to ventilate rooms. Not near anything much but good if travelling on a tour for a couple of nights.
