Hidden Gem What an amazing stay at Hotel La Griglia!! Arrived on a cold Winter's evening in February and were warmly greeted by our hosts,  Lenno and Bruna. Stayed in a charming suite, tastefully decorated with nice added touches such as a bowl of sweets, toothbrushes etc.. Very comfortable beds. Excellent hot showers with very good pressure. Celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at their cozy inviting restaurant. I cannot say enough about the delicious meal we had. The food was absolutely outstanding!! My husband had the lamb cutlets and I chose the homemade pasta with rocket and mushrooms. Absolutely to die for!! Awoke in the morning and took a stroll outside by the idyllic old church next door and a lovely view of Argegno and Lake Como. Had a lovely breakfast with a good variety including yogurt, cereals, pastries, ham and local cheese. I cannot find one fault with Hotel La Griglia, other than we wished we had discovered it earlier. Excellent value for money. If you wish to experience true Italian hospitality with authentic Italian cuisine, then I highly recommend this hotel. We will definitely return!!

Our first visit was in June 2010 and we knew we had to come back to this little tucked away heaven. This visit was very short, just one evening, arriving around dinner time. We were welcomed immediately and shown our quaint and cozy room. It was very clean and all we needed. After freshening up we went down for dinner. We must have been the only guests at the hotel and it was perfect. The table was ready for us and the fire had been started. Both the wine and dinner menus hold a great variety, offering options to any taste. As I am a relatively picky eater, I opted for the vegetarian options. One must have is the artichoke pastry - it’s absolutely delicious! The onion soup is also very good and they suggested my husband and I split a bowl as it’s a heavy soup. Definitely go with that recommendation - they split it for you and it’s a deliciously warm starter! For main meals I had a pasta with cheese and polenta and my husband had pasta with wild boar. Both meals were amazing. We sat reminiscing of our last visit and were thrilled to see the familiar faces of the family who owns this establishment. They are so warm and welcoming, and this place is really a great little escape. This place is perfect for couples looking to have some quiet relaxation. There is a cozy family type feel and it’s an easy atmosphere to be in. I would not recommend this place to anyone who is looking for absolute catering, bags carried or room service, etc. the best part of this place is the restaurant space and sitting area. You can take your drinks back to your room. La Griglia holds a special place in our hearts and I’m sure we’ll find another time to return again.

“Very nice hotel, just a few technical difficulties ”

When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised at how lovely this hotel was. It really felt homely. There was however, a slight language barrier as the staff don’t speak English. One of the Chefs spoke English and had to translate everything back and forth between us and the hotel receptionist. Even with the language barrier, the staff were lovely and we managed to communicate with small words etc. Also, this place is very difficult to get to if you aren’t driving a car. We had to get a taxi, cost an absolute fortune just from the main town of Argegno as the taxi drivers don’t seem to like going up the mountain! We didn’t realise how far up the mountain it was and had no way of getting down to the main town unless you take a very steep walking track, about 40 minutes walk through the forest (beautiful but wouldn’t recommend unless you’re very fit). We asked about public transport and we figured out (Google) that there is a bus that stops out the front of the hotel during the day but these buses are limited and unfortunately are not always reliable. You can catch this bus in the centre of Argegno back up to the hotel but we waited for over three hours as the bus didn’t come so luckily we caught the very last one for the day at 6pm. This really restricted us to what we could do during the day and we had to eat at the hotel every night, luckily the food was very nice. Breakfast was great, lots of variety. Beautiful room, very clean and gorgeous views from the belcony down to the lake. I would absolutely recommend this hotel if you have your own car and if you speak Italian, this would help too! If you’re a traveling tourist this place might be difficult for you unfortunately, and instead I would recommend you stay right in the centre of the town on the lake for ease. Over all though, the hotel is beautiful, clean, great food and very relaxing, we enjoyed this hotel very much.

The room was very clean and the bed exceptionally comfortable even though one couldn’t increase the heat in the cold bathroom - apparently it was 20 degrees in there and that was all we got, but it felt more like 15 - chilly if you want to shower. When we arrived and throughout our stay, we felt like we were just an anonymous number. The staff - except a friendly young lady - spoke only Italian and pretty much ignored us the whole time. Dinner was ok but nobody took the time to speak to us about anything, or asked if we liked the food or needed anything. It seemed they were glad when we left. Breakfast was excellent. Despite the cozy bed we slept badly - so much noise. The road is right by the hotel and even though there isn’t tons of traffic, it’s enough to disturb the piece until midnight. At night the neighborhood dogs barked incessantly. Monday morning was a lot of traffic. I had to sleep with earplugs. The decor of the hotel was very unique and beautiful. Would not go back though.
