“Comfortable hotel, well located”

This is a good-value, comfortable hotel, in a good location. It is not in the centre of town, but on the other side of the river, very near the station. It is a 15 minute walk along a pleasant street to reach the centre of this fine city. Our room was quite spacious. The bathroom had a shower over the bath, not to our liking, but was manageable, with handles. The car park is in the basement of the hotel - very convenient. Breakfast is outstanding. A bar with light snacks is open all day, and the restaurant is adequate, and open in the evening as with almost all in Spain, from 2030.

“On the whole, excellent”

I stayed at the Hotel Riosol for three nights in January 2019. As others have said, the location is excellent for travellers. I arrived by bus and the bus station is only a few minutes' walk away. I left by train and the station is even closer. The hotel is also very well located for getting to the major sites on foot, and it's easy to find your way. The cathedral, Casa Botines, San Marcos and San Isidoro are easy walking distance away. I can also recommend the excellent Museo de Leon. My room was at the front of the building, on the sixth floor. Despite this being near a busy corner, the sound-proofing of the windows was very effective. The view across the river was beautiful, and the room itself, though small, was comfortable and adequate to my needs. Likewise the bathroom. Everything was clean and functional. My major problem with the room is one that I've encountered elsewhere in Europe when travelling in winter, namely that it was excessively overheated. In some hotels, the heaters could be turned off by the guest, but in this hotel this was not possible. At least, I couldn't see any way of turning off the heater in the room AND the heater in the bathroom. In such a tiny room this was seriously too much. This meant that, to avoid being in a stifling room, I had to open the window and endure the traffic noise. The noise I found less of a problem than the fact that I was having to waste so much energy by running the heaters unnecessarily. So many hotels do this and I have no idea why. It really spoiled my impression of this otherwise great little hotel. The buffet breakfast was fine, and average for the offerings I've found in similar hotels in Spain. Could I make a polite suggestion, though, that the waitress attending the breakfast buffet, who clearly had a heavy cold, takes more care where she is facing when she sneezes and blows her nose? I'm not normally worried about germs and such, but there were some serious issues regarding public health in the way she dealt with her illness in public and near the food. Front desk staff were very polite and helpful and spoke excellent English. A big help was the fact that the hotel has a room service arrangement with a nearby Italian restaurant, who will deliver lunch and dinner to your room. This is then charged to your room account. On those evenings when you just can't be bothered trying to find yet another place to eat, this was a huge plus.
