This is a 3 star hotel with a very good rate! Located right on the main street that takes you to the Cathedral and close to different attractions, restaurants and train station. Cozy, comfortable and very helpful staff. Santiago and Ana were our main point of contact at the hotel since they were working at the reception and make our stay at Gelmirez hotel very pleasant. Buffett breakfast was included and unique with Spanish charcuterie and local cheeses. Our room was on the 8th floor very spacious and modern. Location is ideal for a morning stroll and very close to everything. Remember reviews are very subjective and only reflect the way of traveling of the person who stayed at the place reviewed. I been traveling for more than 50 years and visited the 5 continents and over 40 countries. So, you can take my review as a good one.

Things we liked during our 3 night stay included the central location, helpful front desk staff, and quiet rooms. The Wi-Fi was the worst so far on our stay in Spain with it either not working or extremely slow in the evenings. It seemed to work better in the mornings. We also thought the breakfast choices could be improved with the “bacon” being almost inedible.

We stayed at the Hotel Gelmirez for two nights during a particularly rainy period mid-October. Check-in was ok; the hotel lobby is very stark and clinical looking with only a few places to sit. Our room was the same, with two twin beds pushed together. There was an outlet on only one side of the bed, not acceptable in these days of multiple devices that need to be charged. The beds themselves were firm but comfortable. The bathroom was ok, good counter size and a walk-in shower with plenty of hot water. As usual with this type of hotel, no place to put shower supplies in the shower. Breakfast was standard but only one coffee machine worked; not acceptable when accommodating larger crowds. The hotel’s location would have been better if it hadn’t been raining so torrentially; otherwise the walk to the old town was prohibitive.

Hotel Gelmirez is conveniently located. It's a ten-minute walk to the Cathedral and less than ten minutes to the train station. The buffet breakfast had many options. My friend and I were on the 8th floor where we could get no internet. We had to sit in the lobby if we wanted to use the internet or send emails. The hotel needs to replace their blow dryers. They shut off after less than five minutes of use, both old and brand-new models. I arrived around 12:30 p.m., an hour and a half before the official check-in time. Ana told me in a rather unfriendly manner that I had to wait until 2 p.m. About ten minutes later, a group of three people arrived, 75 minutes before check-in and were immediately given a room. After they left the reception area, I asked again to check in, and reluctantly Ana checked me in. I really don't understand the check-in policy, but was grateful to be given a room. I had just arrived in Santiago after walking the Camino Ingles and needed a place to put my tired and sore feet up. While other hotel receptionists were efficient and had a positive attitude, Ana needs to improve her interactions with the hotel's clients. Kind words and a friendly smile go a long way.
