“Day trip”

Day trip to Peguera , the area was very clean and nice restaurants cafe and eateries . If you want snacks and juice plenty shops for this too . Beach was clean nice walking area . I stayed in Santa Ponca but trip was a day out . Taxi in am and got bus back afternoon

If you want absolute perfection on every level at every moment of the day or night then this hotel is not for you! I had read many of the reviews before deciding to book despite the numerous negative comments around. Now I am here my take is as follows:- For ‘tatty and in poor repair’ I can see an element of historic charm. Some outdoor patios and public areas do indeed have cracked tiles, peeling paint and dirty looking coping stones. By modern standards it could certainly do with a huge overhaul but may then lose a certain aspect of its place in history. It would have to be done extremely sympathetically to maintain the old character. Inside however I found it to be clean and modern overall with the exception of the lift which still seems to have its old interior which is painted but chipped and scratched. My room, a deluxe sea view on the third floor has a beautiful aspect. Some reviews have complained about having to look through the trees or not being able to see the sea because of them…..for me it adds interest and peace. The furniture is indeed old and wooden but the room is decorated with an air of classic sophistication and some more modern pieces complement the overall style. It is clean and airy. The bed is huge, a little on the hard side for my taste but manageable. I requested (via a note I left written in Spanish) a softer, flatter pillow which duly appeared later that day and made all the difference to my third night’s sleep. My bathroom is adequately sized and has a walk in shower, much preferable to having a bath imo. It does have a wobbly ‘shelf’ placed on the side of the sink but again imo this helps keep the sink clean from the soap bar etc and it is out of the way enough not to tip it over if you aren’t clumsy! I cannot comment on the ‘preferred’ areas as I’d decided from reviews that it didn’t offer anything I would be particularly bothered about (chocolate dipped strawberries, flowers in my room, more room space, hot tub, special seating at breakfast/dinner etc). Anything I wanted the helpful staff (particularly Monika at GuestServices and housekeeping staff) sorted out for me regardless of being ‘preferred’ or not! I did note however that some of the preferred rooms on lower floors did not have sea view, only being able to see the garden from their perspective. If you want to be sure you can see the sea (even if through trees!) then be sure to request a higher floor whatever grade of room you book. Entertainment is good quality, low key and takes place in the beautiful surroundings of the Piano Bar. I only ate in the World buffet restaurant. It is market style where the fish or meat you choose is cooked fresh to order in front of you and is absolutely excellent. The food on the self-service pass however is generally disappointing with a few odd exceptions. It is always cold despite being under the heat lamps. If you like desserts there are only a few choices but the sorbets and ice creams are always excellent. Similarly breakfast options cooked fresh by the chef offer the best quality; self service pass choices are usually not hot enough. Staff have been described as ‘aloof’ in other reviews but I would probably say they just do not over fuss. They are generally efficient with a few of them being friendly too. Down by the beach there is ‘Barefoot Grill’ which was not open during my stay (second week of May). As I sunbathed in the garden beside it most days I picked up from staff being shown around that it was due to open the following week. Also the ‘Coco Cafe’ between Reception and the pool, was also closed. I didn’t try any of the bookable restaurants as with the exception of the Seaside Grill they weren’t available either. I didn’t mind but probably should have been informed about this when booking. Reception and Piano Bar are elegant and palatial, beautifully furnished in classical but modern style. Clientele in the resort and hotel is mainly German. The resort itself is generally quiet and peaceful, certainly along the beach boulevard at the time I was here (second week in May). Age demographic errs to the older end in the main but some young couples around and young couples with babies. The shops, bars and restaurants on the town street fall somewhere between classy and tacky. The bus to Palma is regular and stops just a few yards away from Villamil front door. Overall I would definitely visit again for the calm, peaceful and relaxing ambiance.

We did have a nice stay and enjoyed our holiday, but a couple of points for feedback and future guests to be aware of: -Service at the poolside bar and in the restaurants was slow at times and we had to ask a couple of times for drinks -The menus were not very accommodating for anyone with a lactose allergy (or vegans) -Whilst described as 18+ it was more a 55+ resort with the atmosphere and entertainment geared to a much older crowd

“Good, but ruined on the last day.”

Booked through Jet2 on HB and be able se we didn’t have the funds to upgrade at the time of booking the holiday with Jet 2, we upgraded to all inclusive at the hotel on arrival. We arrived at the hotel at 2.30pm and I had previously emailed the Hotel to enquire about the price to upgrade from HB to AI. I was quoted 89€ each per day, €890 for 5 days. On arriving, the Hotel tried to charge us €130 each per person for the upgrade to all inclusive. It wasn’t until I showed the email that they relented. It would have been cheaper to book through Jet2 at £404 each for the 5 days, so I would advise anyone to do so, as fthe are able to. . We had a good time, and this is a relatively good 5 star hotel. The food in the pool bar, which we used every day, was excellent. The Buffet Breakfast was good, but the evening buffet dinner was inconsistent. The selection of dishes available appeared to improve as the hotel occupancy levels increased! No one really explained how it worked and my wife had bones in her fish at least twice. So we booked dinner in the other restaurants on site, which were good. The seaside grill was exceptional. The Tapas bar, was good though we could have done with some more information when ordering, as the portions were huge. Our deluxe sea view room was excellent which we upgraded to for 250€. Well worth it. All went swimmingly until the last day of our holiday. As we were on a night flight home to the UK, we tried to extend to a late checkout. We had to wait until 10am on the day we left to find out if our room was available for us to stay in. And only then were we told we could not keep the room for longer. On checkout, I was told our all inclusive allowance finished at 12.00 noon, even though we were at the hotel until 7.00pm. So basically we paid for 5 days, but got 4 days worth of all inclusive (which at these prices is quite a big deal). I tried to point this fact out, but got the normal company policy response, which is massively disappointing and not what I expected from a 5 Star hotel. The ironic thing is that my wife and I eat healthily, and are not big alcohol drinkers, so we would get no-where close to consuming anywhere near the amount we paid for. We really liked this hotel and were going to come back next year for a 60th birthday celebration, but this last day experience has spoiled our stay. No one wants to be ripped off for their hard earned cash. This was never explained at the time of purchase. Needless to say, we shall be holidaying elsewhere for next year’s birthday celebrations.
