Just back from a weeks stay with four male friends. We go to Tenerife as a group and normally stay at The Bitacora. We booked our single rooms direct. I opted for a sea view panoramic room which was on the top floor. Originally going for B and B was surprised to find evening meal only €30 for the week. Check in was smooth and delighted to find a bottle cava. Room and bathroom not the biggest but very nice. I actually had a bath which delighted me. View from the balcony stunning. Breakfast the next morning very nice. All the usual hot and cold options with a grill station for omelette etc. Evening meal excellent. Lots of hot and cold options. Various meats and fish at grill station and also pasta. Small but adequate pool and no problem with sun beds. Very good water based fitness classes. Small but nice sun bathing area on roof. Bar reasonably priced and good entertainment. My only criticism is show finished 1045pm and it would have been nice to have music up to the midnight closure. Nice touch was gifts every day , bottles wine, hand cream etc. Must mention free a la carte meal which was excellent. All staff were excellent so won’t single anyone out. Short walk into the port and €7 taxi ride into PDLA. Over all an excellent, smaller adult only hotel that will certainly get my custom again.

Having stayed at another wonderful Tenerife Hotel in Los Gigantes last year we looked forward to being in the thick of things at the highly rated H10 Big Sur. Travelling with friends first impressions are great. Nice airy, well decorated lobby, a complimentary Mimosa on arrival and a speedy check in from Jesus. Rooms were spotless, well decorated but if you have selected the basic room they are not large. Buffet breakfast and evening meal were excellent. Food may become a bit ‘samey’ for more than a short break but we were happy with our short stay selection. Everything we ate was lovely and it’s always nice to see a couple of bottles of complimentary Cava on the breakfast buffet! The hotel position is very convenient..right on the promenade between Playa dla and Los Cristianos.. lots of bars/restaurants within walking distance. Be advised tho… it’s really quite Brits abroad in LC… the older generation and young families rather than party central.. there isn’t a huge amount of Canarian culture or tradition on display! The hotel has a cat called Blacky. He is a rather aloof creature who seems to own the pool area and longes about all day receiving a tickle in the head with complete disdain and nibbling on poolside tidbits if he feels like it or sleeping on a foyer sofa if it’s too hot. I loved the fact that he was welcomed in the hotel… it was a real positive for me as a huge cat lover. The things we didn’t like? The morning queue to access the pool/loungers is ridiculous. You have to wait till the ‘lifeguard’ arrives around 915-930 and removes the chain around the pool…then it’s no holds barred like the Grand National… as the long queue of residents race to nab a lounger. If the hotel is full it doesn’t look like there are not enough loungers to go round as we saw people wandering around the pool area trying to find somewhere to sit without success. The ‘lifeguard’ goes off duty about 5 and they don’t close the pool then so it seems crazy that they make people wait to access the pool area. I know it’s an issue for the management who are trying to deal with sunbed hogging but it caused a lot of frustration in the queue when we were there and does need addressing. The pool area isn’t cleaned during the day and used glasses etc are not collected. You have to return them to the pool bar yourself. A used wipe was still present attached to the wall behind our sunbeds for the duration of our stay. There is no pool service…a surprise as I’m pretty sure they would make a decent amount of money if they had a waiter managing poolside. The room safes are chargeable at about €2.70 a day. Personally I think this is crazy and should be complementary…it would add up on a longer stay. However the Wi-Fi is free so yin&yang. The staff are a little surly at times.. very few go out of their way to smile and welcome you…I can see that many of the customers are probably quite rude too but it didn’t feel like great customer service from most. The exception was Jesús..who I think is a/the manager who went out of his way to address issues we had to our satisfaction and really did provide a good level of customer service which was much appreciated. All in all a reasonable hotel and we are fully aware it is loved by many return customers. We had a decent stay but not a patch on our experience last year. Each to their own but I like a little more culture and a few less irritations on my hard earned break. Lessons learned. Reasonable hotel but LC you’re not for me!

Going to be very honest with this review. First the reception staff are lovely and it’s a beautiful reception area as you walk in. So this hotel is definitely for 60+ no atmosphere very boring the evening entertainment is poor no buzz about the place; felt like an old peoples home. The food is actually terrible the live cooking is under staffed it had two members of staff on in the evening and you just stand waiting for ages! The buffet section is very small with awful choice such as oxtail, fish tikka curry or Brussels sprouts! Sun beds and day beds round the pool people just put the towels on them and go out for the day so no beds are free just covered with a towel! It’s really not great much nicer places to go not worth the money at all. Sorry for not a great review but it’s true.
