“Great hotel”

I always stay here when I come to Oxford. Great staff, friendly and helpful. Comfortable bed. Located in a beautiful neighborhood, a short walk into the city center. I always stay here when I come to Oxford. Great staff, friendly and helpful. Comfortable bed. Located in a beautiful neighborhood, a short walk into the city center. The only issue, common to many hotels is the rooms are not sound insulated. The footsteps of the person in the room above me disturbed me. Not had that issue before. It was rather warm, but it is easy to turn off the radiator/open.

“Very handy for Oxford centre, well worth the money.”

This was a lovely clean, tidy, quaint hotel on the main road around 20 minutes walk from the centre of Oxford. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the beds very comfortable. I had a very good experience overall but judging by the other reviews the choice of room seems to matter a lot. I had a courtyard room on the first floor with a French window and small balcony. It was very clean, recently refurbished and good quality. The shower bath combination is slightly awkward but adequate and water pressure was good. There is indeed, as some have noted, a potential problem with noise from neighbouring rooms - the walls must be very thin - but that is common in housing stock of this era where it is converted into multiple rooms. Staff were uniformly nice and keen to please. Food was very good - a limited choice and not cheap - but very professionally done. For the price point I think it deserves four stars and I would return. The centre of town is a 15 minute walk, so easily doable and the hotels in or nearer the centre (Old Bank, Randolph, or Parsonage, for example) are ludicrously expensive by comparison, so, again, fairly priced.

The hotel is in a great location, with parking which is great for visiting Oxford. Me and my 12 year old stayed in an Oxford Room which was very clean with a comfy bed. Nice bathroom with lots of toiletries. Breakfast was OK, but expected a bit more. Service was not what I’d expect from a 4 star hotel - my hot food was dumped on the edge of the table without the previous plates being cleared! In fact nobody cleared anything during the time we were there. The main downside was the price. It appeared that I paid £25 for our breakfasts on top of a nightly rate of £185 bringing it to £210. When I checked online the same night was £187. I queried this in the morning and was rudely told prices change and was dismissed quite abruptly. It left a horrible last impression, which is a shame as we would have stayed again. But for £210 a night I’d expect a lot more - it feels like they are relying on the location and not putting in the extra touches to make it truly 4 star.
