I think this may once have been the grande dame of hotels in Phnom Penh and, despite being in need of a facelift, there is still a lot to like about the hotel. The staff is professional and friendly. Check in was efficient and I was in my room shortly after arrival. The decor in the rooms is very tired but I had a lovely river view, the bed was quite comfortable, the room and bathroom were spacious and everything worked well with the exception of the air conditioning which seems to be centrally controlled and did not cool the room sufficiently for me. The wifi takes a little while to connect but then works well. The breakfast selection was good with something to cater for all tastes. The hotel offers a pool, fitness centre and various other facilities The location is excellent - within walking distance of key visitor attractions. Overall, I would recommend the hotel if the room price is not over $65 per night (I paid $60).

Hotel Cambodiana opened in 1969 and was considered Cambodia's premier hotel with impressive architecture. Unfortunately, it hasn't changed much since then and is stuck in time. The hotel is by the river and is a 20-minute walk or a $1 Grab to Riverside and close to Naga Casino. The medium-sized lobby still has furniture from the 70's. Check-in was quick and friendly. I was upgraded to the Mekong Room which had an excellent view but the corridor leading to the room was dreary. Sadly, the room itself needed a lot of TLC. There weren't any sockets near the bed, and it looked extremely outdated. There is a safe and 2 bottles of water are provided/day. The room was clean, and the bed was fairly comfortable. The bathroom was also dated, and the hot water wasn't reliable. The free internet was passable. The hotel has 2 tennis courts as well as a pool by the river, which is clean, enjoyable to swim in, and deep. There is a bar with a good Pinoy Band and reasonably priced drinks. The breakfast buffet was adequate with made-to-order eggs, salads, a variety of cold cuts, and hot Asian cuisine. The quality was ok. All in all, Hotel Cambodiana has seen better days, but the location is good. If you can get a room for $60 and don't mind an older property that needs a major refurbishment, then it'll be a decent choice. Anything over $60 net then I'd look elsewhere.
