“Another week in paradise…”

This was my 6th visit to Barceló Santiago overall since 2008, and my 3rd visit in the last year. This place never disappoints! We let the hotel know that we don’t drink alcohol, so as a welcome gift we were given a bottle of alcohol free Prosecco which was such a lovely touch! A week here is a week of peace and quiet, relaxation, stunning views and wonderful service. The rooms are spotlessly clean, spacious and bright, offering the most amazing views (I recommend booking a deluxe sea view room). There is nothing quite like sitting on the balcony in the morning as the sun comes up, enjoying a cup of coffee and looking out to sea. The area the hotel is in is both tranquil and lively - there are a few little restaurants and cafes around (we recommend La Pérgola for a delicious vegan paella) - there is a beautiful walkway all around the hotel which is great to do after dinner to watch the sun set, listening to the soothing sounds of the ocean and enjoying the magnificent view of the cliffs of Los Gigantes (The Giants!). The staff are all amazing and so friendly. Sara in the restaurant was so lovely and incredibly efficient, visibly working so hard every day but always making time to smile and make sure you are OK. She was so friendly and made our visit feel more special. We also really enjoyed chatting to Viktoria from the animation team who was also lovely, as were all of the animation team. The cleaners do an incredible job of maintaining high standards and they are all so friendly when you see them. Some people were complaining during our visit that they have closed the downstairs lobby bar, but the main Breeze bar is open and they put out additional seating all around the pool area and have extra staff serving so there is really nothing to complain about! The breeze bar offers a great atmosphere with music and entertainment and beautiful views. If drinking in the bar, your drinks will be served in glasses, but if you opt to sit in the additional seating around the pool area you’ll be served drinks in plastic cups for obvious health and safety reasons. This was of course no issue for us, but some guests were complaining about drinking from plastic cups. Please don’t be put off by these reviews/comments - a plastic cup won’t ruin your holiday!! The buffet is huge and the food is of great quality, with a different theme every night (Italian night, Spanish night, American night, Asian night, etc). Please consider my one suggestion: to make the experience better for all, please consider offering more vegan options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. These can be enjoyed by vegans and non-vegans alike and it means that people like me paying the same amount as everyone else would be able to enjoy more options. It would be really helpful to have a designated vegan area (like the gluten free station) with just a couple of additional options, and for them to be clearly labelled vegan (listing allergens is helpful but just because something is free from allergens doesn’t mean it is vegan - for example food containing meat may be allergen free but is obviously not vegan, and a less obvious example is carrots cooked with honey is not vegan. We really enjoyed the options which were available but they are very limited compared to the amount of options other guests can enjoy. We did contact the guest experience manager about this during our stay who very helpfully suggested we speak to the food and beverage manager however when we tried to do this at dinner it caused some confusion and we didn’t manage to speak to them. We did love the options we had but it would be good if next time we can enjoy some pasta, pizza, etc. For any vegans considering staying here, it is worth it if you are happy to eat whole foods such as rice, potatoes, sautéed vegetables, salads, but until there are more options such as vegan sausages, pasta etc I would recommend going half-board and having lunch at Bamboo Bakery which is near the harbour and offers great vegan sandwiches. For breakfast at Barceló I enjoyed fresh fruit, toast and cereal (oats, banana chips, prunes etc). Thank you Barceló Santiago for another week in paradise and for making our stay so special. We will be back!

“Excellent hotel in beautiful location”
