Considering there have been so many negative comments recently I’d like to redress the balance. The room was excellent, immaculately clean , plenty of hanging space and the bed was so comfy. The food was amongst the best I’ve ever had in a holiday hotel, plenty of fresh fruit, salads and vegetables. I eat very little meat and was able to eat a vegetarian meal both at lunchtime and in the evening. There was always a freshly cooked meat or fish option too. I normally don’t eat pudding but there were some delicious ones that I just had to have and the presentation was lovely. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful, if there was a problem it was soon sorted. We were alerted to the fact that building work was being carried out at the property next to the hotel but the noise was minimal and didn’t affect our stay at all. I’ll definitely be going back next year !

Stayed for a week in early May and after reading some reviews regarding the roof top and building work next door we had our initial concerns, these were both soon forgotten about almost immediately after we arrived. Yes the rooftop sundeck was open but the bar wasn't (this didn't bother us as it made it much quieter and easier to get the nice sunbeds), there was work being carried out next door but the noise was minimal and unobtrusive and didn't affect our holiday at all. Check in was slow unfortunately and took us over 2 hours to be allocated our room, we subsequently found out there was a laundry issue. The room was well presented with what we can only describe as the best mattress we've ever slept on, however there were a few small niggles that could require attention :- there are no drawers anywhere in the room, sliding doors for the wardrobe very noisy and sticky, shower so narrow you can barely turn around (the overhead shower couldn't be turned off completely and constantly dripped to a point I had to put a plastic bag over it) and having the wash basin in the main room was also strange! The restaurant food was generally good and plentiful though as said in other reviews it could have been warmer, freshly cooked food by the chef was excellent. Morning breakfast was superb and the staff worked tirelessly and was always happy. The location of the hotel is 1st class for a peaceful break, a short walk from the hotel you have excellent restaurants and just around the corner is a beautiful harbour with shops and restaurants (and ice cream shops). Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Hamilton and would certainly go back

Really enjoyed our corner junior suite with a sea view which we booked to give us space, a balcony and a fabulous 180 degree view of the water and the harbour entrance. Clean and well appointed. The location of the washbasin ie facing into the room was disconcerting and reduced privacy which even long-married couples appreciate! The roof bar and terrace was open and was a great space to enjoy the view, although the music was far too loud for comfort - no need during the day when people just want to relax up there. The main pool was not too busy and more sheltered than the roof terrace on windy days, although the pool water was too cold for my comfort. Parking charge of €15 per day is steep for a small town location. Breakfast buffet gave a good full range choice of food, although hot food was not warm enough. Perfect location on the waterfront, lovely and quiet but with four bars/restaurants on the promenade directly below the hotel which were all good, and then Cales Font a 5 minute walk away around the corner with a choice of harbourside restaurants and bars, with a nice buzzy atmosphere but not too crowded at this time of year.
