It was our 3rd stay at the Balcon, we really like it there although would stay out of the centre during the high summer season due to people being on holiday, but this is not the hotels fault!! We have travelled to Nerja for almost 20 years at various times of the year. Staff are all very nice, friendly & helpful. We cannot understand bad comments about the breakfast - WHAT ARE THEY EXPECTING? The choice is absolutely excellent, various fresh fruit, cereals, fresh omelettes made to order, crepes again made to order, various fruit drinks, Buck’s Fizz, water bottles in an ice buckets, pastries, eggs, bacon, mushrooms + much more. Another silly comment was no entertainment, they obviously don’t read about the hotels before booking maybe they should try Benidorm! This hotel is classy. Thank you all for a fabulous much needed relaxing break. 👍👌👏👏👏👏

“Old World Hotel”

Superb location with stunning views. Get yourself a sea view room. Quiet area even at night , busy during the day but a great spot to people watch. Very safe & secure hotel with efficient , friendly and professional service in every department.

Stayed two weeks end of February. Hotel is fine, staff excellent, bedroom clean and comfortable, superb view of the sea - couldn’t be closer - but after one week the incessant noise of the sea breaking over the rocks (not gentle lapping waves) did become rather tedious! The breakfast was very good - only criticism was that it never varied at all each day. Same old same . You were lucky if you managed an Omelette as the omelette man was definitely multi tasking all over the place! Main criticism was that there is no comfortable lounge to sit in - Yes - you can sit outside under basic cover at the outside bar - but in winter that is not always an option. Only inside options were the large foyer or to sit at basic cafe type tables and hard upright chairs The swimming pool - although no doubt a sun trap in summer, is so small there was only room for four sunbeds! Although this should not be a problem due to its proximity to the sea. There was also no evening entertainment whatsoever in the hotel. . We don’t want dancing, quizzes or anything like that - but at least a pianist or guitarist etc would be normal for a 4 star hotel. Did see that there is a ‘piano bar’ - but that was totally closed all the time and appeared it was being used as a store room. Position is superb - right on the sea front and beside the old town for restaurants etc. Would I stay there again? No - on speaking to others, their views were much the same - this is a nice hotel, needs some refurbishment, and it is definitely trading solely on its position. If you do stay there - a sea view room is an absolute necessity - some other rooms were at the back looking at a wall across a narrow alley. I dont know if those overlooking the Balcony Europa are classed as sea views but they would be very noisy with masses of people walking below , and open restaurant/bar beneath.

Despite asking, was unable to get any assistance taking luggage to the pick-up point at the car park in the town- which has no shelter or seating
