Fifth time there and as good as ever. And will definitely return next year. Brilliant place. However, pool out of commission all 11 days. This had happened previously. Staff are very professional and great client service on a compensation package for lack of facility. But a little quick of the mark to get the compensation signed off, thus we lost out a little. The principal should have been to sort out on check out.

“Nice but, could have been better”

Lovely foyer modern and refurbished but I think they forgot about the lifts. Rooms were large and clean, one very flat pillow had to use the cushions from the couch. Breakfast was gorgeous so much choice and the staff were really pleasant. Nowhere for people to smoke so everyone stood outside the main entrance which was awful for anyone entering the hotel and the hotel pool bar and grill was closed for 3 full days of our 7 day stay which was really disappointing. Nice beach although rocky to walk into the sea and an easy Walk to the bus station

“5 Star on paper, pleasant but not luxury.”

Stayed here for a week as a couple. On arrival we were told the pool was closed due to a fault and were offered a meal at the Top Floor restaurant or a spa booking along with use of the pool at the Lancelot over the road in compensation. Luckily the pool was open the next day and remained so for the duration of the stay…however reading other reviews it seems we were lucky in this regard. We opted for the spa package which was 90 mins and retailed at €97 euros each so sounds like we did ok considering we didn’t arrive until 8pm on the first night. Staff are friendly and rooms are well maintained, comfortable, have AC and kept to a good standard. High pressure shower which can be rare at hotels of any standard. Food at the restaurants and drinks at bars are good and priced just slightly higher than restaurants and bars on the streets around. The downside for us was given this is a 17 storey building, prides itself on being the tallest on the Island, has guest accommodation on floors 3-16 with almost all rooms having a 180 degree view of something (Sea or City) worth looking at, we had the worst view available. If allocated room 309 as a “standard city view” room be aware you’re only going to be looking at the swimming pool roof and nothing else. The room itself is fine other than that, just be aware that you’ll be the one set of guests with a rubbish view. Even the other city view rooms give a view of something better than a roof. Took a shine off the holiday as in all its advertising this hotel makes it clear that its unique selling point is the views from its floor to ceiling windows. On speaking to staff re possible paid upgrades none were available for the duration of the stay. This isn’t a touristy area of the island, unlike the resorts, so was it easy to push the foreign tourists into the worst room on the Canary Island’s version of a busy bank holiday week (Canary Day 30th May)? Felt like it.

The reason for the 3 star rating is simply that we were not informed on arrival that the pool and pool bar is shut. This has impacted immensely on our stay. We have paid for a 5 star experience including all the amenities that come with it. This we have not received. The alternative is you go to reception pay 40 euros deposit for two deck chairs and walk them to the beach. Although a nice sandy beach to be able to swim you need to negotiate slippery rocks. Or you can use the pool of the hotels 3 star sister hotel up the road. We contacted Love Holidays who we booked with and to be honest after a few emails back and forth they have told us they can’t assist us any further with the ongoing issue. We have been here 6 days and the pool does not look like being open any time soon. So a warning to anyone who has booked the Arrecife Gran Hotel. The hotels compensation for the inconvenience caused is either, Coffee and cake at the roof top bar. Use of the spa. Cocktail at the roof top bar. Access to the pool of the 3 star sister hotel. The information above has been provided by love holidays and not by the hotel who at no time during our stay have provided any information about the issue with the pool. We have used the pool at Lancelot Hotel and the guy at the pool bar is great and makes an ace jug of Sangria for 12 euros. Don’t go to the cafe at the closed pool directly in front of the hotel as a jug of Sangria will cost 21 euros. We nearly fell through the floor!! If you are still reading this review the staff, room and food we cannot fault. Could of been perfect but for the pool issue, and the lack of information from the management. Lifts are a nightmare too!! So for all of our 10 day stay NO POOL!!
