“Excellent location”

My stay was very satisfactory. You could say that it is located in Delhi's pink zone, a very busy street with lots of people and vehicles, but you can't hear any noise in the room.

We arrived at the Ajanta Hotel in Delhi very tired from an overnight flight. The manager Rashid was very keen to talk to us and find out our plans. He was keen to replan our holiday. We were too tired to discuss it with him so we said we would talk the next day. The following day we sat down with him again. We showed him our planned itinerary with our route and hotels. He basically said that our plan would not work and his would be much better. We were still disorientated and wondering if our plans were possible. He assured us his plan was much better. We were unhappy about the amount he was charging and he did adjust this by taking evening meals off. Feeling very pressured we agreed to his plan and paid for it. Everything was included taxi, hotels, breakfasts, entry to attractions and three guides. The next morning we collected the printed itinerary still feeling unhappy. We had planned this trip for months as solo travellers and now it was someone else’s organised trip. We have travelled the world as solo travellers we should have been stronger, we felt hijacked. The outcome was positive due to a fantastic driver. I cannot praise Kahlil Ahmad enough. He was an excellent driver, considerate, helpful, friendly and attuned to our needs. Two of the hotels chosen for us were out on a limb and we were the only ones there so Khalil helped with communication and found places for us to eat. Without him and his lovely clean car it would have been very different. If anyone is planning a trip and would like his number I can pass it on. As for having guides we felt it totally unnecessary. The internet can give you all the information and then you just need time to look. We did more travelling than we planned with five two night stays and one three night. It was a good trip overall but exhausting we should have been firm and not agreed to being organised. Talking to other British travellers this is common practice by Indian hotels so beware. The Ajanta hotel has clean rooms but the bathrooms need a deep clean or an update. We had two different rooms one at the front of the hotel that was noisy from the road and one at the back that was quiet but had no window. The adjoining restaurant served a good breakfast and food could be bought there at any time. The waiters were all very attentive.
