Needing a base on the Breckland/Fenland margin, the Crown Hotel was well-placed. It's a fine old and quirky building and not at all formulaic, with several levels such that there were three separate WiFi addresses. My bedroom was well-appointed, with a good bathroom, comfortable double bed and enough storage space for luggage etc. It was on the top floor, and the narrow staircases could cause problems for less able guests. The breakfast room on the first floor was attractive with good service and reasonable food options. I ate my evening meals in the ground-floor bar area, which is spacious, serves also as the locals pub, and has a quieter small lounge with a varied array of whiskies. Neither the B&B nor meal prices were expensive (evening meals around £16) and there were options for vegetarians. The managers and staff were helpful. It was clearly popular with people working in the area, but would also be a decent and agreeable place for a short holiday or weekend break.

“Historic, Atmospheric, Good Location”

Spent two nights over the weekend here during July. We found the staff extremely pleasant and efficient and checking in was really easy. My room was on the top floor and I would say those who struggle with stairs would require a room on a lower floor as the stairs are very steep. But you have to remember, this is a building dating from the 1600s. My room was spacious, if a little dark. Bed was fine, pillows all good, plugs were hard to reach but not an issue. Bathroom was ok, shower was a little on the cramped size but the pressure was excellent and just what was needed during a heatwave in July. We had food and drinks and again, no issues. Good choices, everyone enjoyed their meals and the prices were reasonable. We were disappointed that they don't serve food after 6pm on Sundays so had to find elsewhere but that was our only negative. Overall, a historic, atmospheric old place which I would certainly stay in again. TIP - if you are staying on the upper floors, rather than using the internal staircase (which is very steep), use the outdoor steps which lead up to an outside door and access to rooms.

Stayed for one night whilst touring Norfolk along the rebellion way on bicycles. Friendly and welcoming staff, good food and excellent ambience. “Recommended by friends, but disappointed ”

Originally booked for 3 nights, but had to reduce to 2 nights. This was actually beneficial as the bed was very hard and pillows were totally lacking any support. I appreciate its subjective, but IMHO! The staff were very attentive, the food was ok, ploughman's on the first evening was very filling… lisää

Did think the room was slightly small but probably inline with dimensions given 20m sq. Disappointed there's a supposed 48hr notice for refund, but couldn't find the T&C's anywhere. P.S need to update website, prices are outdated
