“We would stay again”

This is a good 3* hotel. We booked a sea view room, which probably contributed to a better stay. Our room, 508, had a spectacular view across the water to Valletta and Manoel Island. The room was spotless and Erika who cleaned it daily did a thorough job. The floor was always disinfected and we had plenty of fresh towels and coffee/tea items. Breakfast had everything we needed from hot foods to fruit, cereal and yoghurt. The breakfast staff were pleasant (just remember it’s a 3* hotel and cannot be compared to a 5*). We stayed for a week and enjoyed the location. The bus stops are at the front and the ferry is a 5-10 minute walk away. We visited Valletta on most days as there’s so much to see. We particularly enjoyed Underground Valletta and Casa Rocca Piccola. We enjoyed many of the local bars and restaurants (especially the ‘happy hours’). The location of the hotel is superb, and we enjoyed Sliema and walking over to St Julian’s Bay. Ignore the poor reviews, but do try and book a sea view room…for the view alone! I would have given this hotel 5*’s but whilst the room was clean and modern, my husband hated the bathroom window that was in the corridor (he had to hang a towel up)…I didn’t care, the glass was frosted, but he really disliked this feature. The end of the bed was also only a foot away from the wall. It wasn’t easy to walk around and the husband stubbed his toes a couple of times. Not huge issues and certainly nothing that would put us off booking again.

After reading the reviews, I was quite nervous about my trip I had planned, but I went with the flow and made up my own mind the warm welcome from Robbie when I arrived late at night, the chap that was cleaning the rooms on 1st floor (who went above and beyond to find me peppermint tea) I had a lovely stay. The breakfast was good. Staff were friendly. There was a good variety. The coffee machine was good. The restaurant has many tables but they are quite close together so just be mindful of other diners and tucking your chairs. The toaster toasts and not much waiting time for either! I didn’t have an evening meal there as there is plenty of restaurants out and about one that you must visit is FASTA homemade fresh pasta…. My room is very clean and tidy and when the sun did come out it made for an excellent Sun trap in the morning. I had a Seaview room which was great although the noise from the roads was very distracting but it is what it is, put some earplugs in. I thought it would be the restaurants and bars below as I was on the first floor that would keep me awake but everything finished around 11 o’clock 1130. I’m a light sleeper anyway (and forgot ear plugs) Unfortunately on my trip couldn’t use the rooftop as they are refurbishing that area there was the option to go to the hotel which is literally a five minute walk around the corner and the view from that hotel was very good they had an indoor and an outdoor pool for which you could use and a spa area. It did the job for my four day trip if you’re going in March, take a jacket and a jumper as it was really windy.

Location wise the hotel was great, facing the harbour with everything close by. The condition of the building was a bit tired but it was clean. My dressing table was barely hanging on to the wall and the swing saloon doors to the toilet were a bit strange. My view was across into another room so I wasn't too fussed about sitting on the balcony and the room smelt awful when I first arrived so I needed to leave the door open. While the bathroom was tiny and a bit hard to move round, the shower was great with very good pressure. Unfortunately my TV had no internet connection so I was slightly stuck with Sky Arts showing episodes of Tales of the Unexpected, or reruns of The Chase. Not the end of the world as I wasn't in the room much. Check in took absolutely ages for some unknown reason and was quite frustrating (though the staff were very helpful and polite). The bar was good though and we made use of the pool table. Breakfast was pretty standard, not a huge amount of variety but it did the job. Unfortunately the pool was out of action as was the gym (but we did have access to a pool down the road, though only found out about this by accident). It's a shame the staff didn't tell us as it was disappointing to not have facilities that were advertised as a plus point. The works being carried out on the pool meant the hotel was INCREDIBLY noisy with banging and hammering starting early in the mornings. I don't think I had one decent night's sleep sadly. That was probably the worst thing that was hard to overlook. Everything else was a minor quibble and given the price I wouldn't have minded but the racket was pretty unforgivable.
