“Beautiful City”

The cultural experience was easy to navigate for English speaking travellers. Respect the region and you will be welcomed and treated well. Public transport is a cost effective way to get around and are frequent. Have to try the local paella’s, seafood the best.

Nice hotel with good location. Large room and bathroom (Jr.Suite). All Jr.Suite rooms located on sunny side so the temperature on daytime was +30...34 degrees. No AC on winter time, just heating. The hotel is very welcoming as are the staff on the front desk. The rooms are nice and well equipped but again they’re way too hot, I do get its Spanish winter but when temps were between 20-27 the rooms became unbearable. The only way to cool was to open the large window but as our room was on the side it meant the block straight next to us could see in and visa versa. The breakfast was nice, we didn’t eat in the main restaurant during our time. There was a mini bar in the room. They provide a lot of complimentary items in the room and additional ones available at reception The bathroom was a bit like “less is more sometimes” - there was a bath with shower, sink unit, toilet and bidet. It was just too full and where the toilet was you could literally lean you head on the sink unit (I’m 5ft 3). The shower head couldn’t be angled properly so it was a race to shower before the water went round the top of the bath and fell onto the floor.

We stayed at Hotel Valencia Center for four nights booked as part of a package holiday, to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. The location was perfect, just a few minutes’ walk to City of Arts and Sciences. With the environment in mind, the hotel offered the option to have hand towels changed daily (leave in sink) or not (leave on handrail) – we chose to help the environment. Bath towels were changed daily, no option offered. We were in a second-floor room; there are lifts in the hotel. The room had twin beds with no option to choose a double, it being part of a package. Staff on Reception, in the bar and on the door of the breakfast room were very pleasant and helpful. We did not get the chance to see the cleaners in our room, but they did come in every day. Hotel Valencia Center is a 4-star hotel but we believe it should be a 3-star hotel. This is why: The room was dark and drab, as was the furniture, which had seen better days. No overhead light in main section where bed/tv is. No kettle (quite usual for Spain) OR even a coffee maker. Bedside lamps did not work independently of each other (i.e. was either both off or both on). There were little directional spot lights which did work independently though. The room was constantly cold as it got never got any sun. Not able to change the temperature in the room because the thermostat was set/stuck on one setting and it would only blow cold air. No blackout curtains and the curtains did not meet properly or overlap. (Some kind of Velcro had been sewn on to the curtain edges, but it must have been two of the same kind of pieces rather than ‘male and female’ because they did not cling to each other as was obviously intended). The sliding wardrobe doors were rickety and kept coming off their runners. The plug socket surround fell off the wall when I pulled the three-plug adaptor out – pretty dangerous! (see photo) Window did not shut/open properly – the rubber surround that seals it was falling off. Wanted to open it to air the room after sleeping (as thermostat/aircon not working) and to close it at night and when there was (frequent) loud music from someplace nearby. No extractor fan in bathroom. We booked this hotel on the basis that it had a gym – it was ‘not in use’ on our first day but was ok thereafter. No lock on bathroom door. Tired bath and shower (shower over bath), rust-type marks around plug and overflow. Toilet did not flush well, had to flush it twice to get rid of even the smallest piece of toilet tissue; a huge waste of water. The location of the hotel was the best thing about Hotel Valencia Center.
