“Don't get a single room”

Let me preface this review by saying that I had a single room (room meant for one person), which undoubtedly had something to do with the lousy location. The room was number 208 and while it was reasonably clean, everything worked, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom a decent size, the water warm and so forth the view was nonexistent. Or rather, yes there was a window but it faced this open shaft filled with this massive metal fire escape. If you opened the window there was this unpleasant odor and during the night there was this low but annoying drone as if a giant washing machine was running somewhere at the bottom of the shaft. It may be unfair, but the placement of my room effected my impression of the hotel as a whole where I admit I also find the staff no very friendly and the restaurant outright terrible (avoid it). Yes the hotel is located in a nice neighborhood and yes it is close to the metro, but if I was going to return to Madrid I would stay somewhere else.

I ve been here several times. I ve usually recommended this hotel: situation, tranquility. This time I had a bad experience. We were given a rather small room, compared to other times, but we didn't say anything about. The air conditioning, in this case the heat, wasn’t working well. We realise this in the evening when we came back. We called the reception and they told us to turn it up as high as possible. It didn't work properly. The room wasnt warm enough. As it was late we didn’t complain. The next day as we spent two hours in the room we noticed it was freezing. So the receptionist went upstairs, but nothing could be done. Finally we were offered a change of room. We accepted in spite of the inconvenience, so as not to spend another night with a low temperature. It was 21:00 and we had to have dinner. The new room, the air was working, but the room had been sprayed with an air freshener, it smelled of smoke. We left the room to air out while we had dinner and when we returned it still smelled of smoke. When the cleaning staff detects that someone has smoked in the room, instead of spraying air freshener they should report it and take appropriate action. We spent two very uncomfortable nights.
