We were staying at the Calipolis for 5 nights as we were celebrating my 50th birthday. I wanted a hotel with a view and so we booked a "bella vista" room on the 7th floor. A couple of days before we arrived, I mailed the hotel letting them know it was my birthday and anything they can do to ensure we had a great stay would be appreciated. I quickly got a reply to say we could pre-purchase a bottle of Cava - not quite what I had in mind and my heart did sink a little as to what we might get when we arrived. I need not have worried. We were checked in by a friendly lady who wished me happy birthday and said they would upgrade our room - and wow, what an upgrade. Still on the 7th floor, room 726 has a slightly different layout. It has patio doors onto the massive balcony from the bedroom and another set of patio doors in the bathroom. And a lovely walk in shower that can easily have 8 poeple in it! We were blown away by the room and I cannot thank them enough. There were Rituals toiletires in the bathroom and shower, we had a fridge that was stocked daily with still and sparkling water along with cans of Coke and a packet of crisps. The room had lots of lighting options as did the bathroom. We had dressing gowns and slippers, a safe, pletny of wardrobe space and a huge comfy bed. The balcony is huge. It's twice the depth of the other balconies of the hotel and had 2 sun loungers, 2 outdoor armchairs and a dining table with 2 chairs. There were also electric blinds on the balcony which could be lowered if you wanted shade from the sun or wind a little. Oh and the view was epic. The Calipolis is very well situated just on the edge of the main town area but only 2 mins walk away. There is a small pool area which from the photos looked a little bleak with the big wall behind it but in reality wasnt too bad at all - and we did use it even though the beach is right across the road. I found the hotel to be well maintained and the staff were generally friendly and helpful - especially when it came to helping us getting to the airport on check out. That's all the good stuff, there were only 2 points that I felt could've been better and I appreciate these are my personal taste: 1: The breakfast was ok but i wasnt blown away by it. The eggs were either cold and if you asked for them fresh, they were friend in 2 inches of oil and didnt taste great. The hot items were more often than not cold or luke warm. I wasnt a fan of the coffee either, even though it was a "nespresso" type machine. (The nespresso in the room was good though.) 2: In our room fridge, they daily stocked it with water and coke. I would only ever have Coke Zero (who wants all that sugar!) and when i asked, there was no way that it could be changed. Seems a bit weird as they get so many other things right. So the two cans of Coke in the fridge on day 1 were there at the end. Both of those were personal taste, if you like Coke and oily eggs, this is definitely the place for you!!! We would stay here again - but i wonder if we have been spoilt? Would our room next time not have all the luxuries of a great big bathroom, huge balcony, Rituals toileteries? If i knew i was getting room 726, i would be there in a flash. Thank you Calipolis for making my birthday a memorable time.
